The next morning, I wake up with my head on Jaime's lap, his head leaning back onto the bean bag chair. I guess I must've shifted around too much, because as soon as I sat up, he slowly lifted his head up. "Good morning." I said as I stretched, smiling at him. He returned the smile, but his face quickly stretched into a yawn, making me yawn too. I laid my head back into the bean bag. "So how are we gonna tell them? Y'know they placed bets on us." I said. He laughed. "I think Karen won, but I think we should tell them after-" He began, but he was cut off by the mission alarm.
We both quickly jumped up and sprinted to the mission room. Everyone was there when we arrived, causing Wally and Gar to raise their eyebrows, smirking at us. I rolled my eyes and listened to Nightwing. "Brick and his men have taken hostages at City Hall. Alpha squad will be me, Wondergirl, Superboy, and Bumblebee. Beta Squad will take down Brick's men and be led by Miss Martian, along with Beast Boy, Artemis, and Robin. Gamma Squad will recover the hostages and be led by Batgirl, with Blue Beetle, Kid Flash, and Volt. Got it? Good." He explained as we all nodded.
"Where's Kaldur?" Mal asked as everyone looked around the room, as if they expected him to appear from thin air. Nightwing locked eyes with me, and I nodded, understanding what was going on. "He... had something to attend to. He'll be back by tomorrow though." Nightwing said, and the team nodded. "Okay then, let's get going." Nightwing said as we all walked towards the zeta tubes.
The plan was going smoothly. Alpha Squad was keeping Brick distracted, while Beta Squad took down his men, giving Gamma enough time to set the hostages free. Well, everything was going smoothly, until the escape part. We got the hostages out, and were running out the back exit, when clay came pouring down on use. "Volt, shield!" Batgirl said, noticing the clay, and I quickly put the shield up.
"Disgusting." I said as I dropped the shield, letting the clay plop down on the floor. "Sorry kids, can't let you take them just yet." The clay said as it grew up into a large clay... man with a face. "Clayface." Batgirl said under her breath. "Me and KF will get the rest of the hostages out of here, if you two can handle him." Batgirl said as me and Blue nodded. KF and her quickly took the hostages down the back alley. "Looks like it's just you two now. Who are you, blondie? Ain't seen you hanging around with the team before." Clay said as he threw blobs of clay at me and Jaime.
"Volt, duck!" Jaime yelled, and I rolled myself just out of the way just as a blob of clay came and hit the spot I was standing. "Volt, huh? You two a thing?" Clay said as he threw more, well, clay. "Is it really that obvious?" Blue asked as he fired sonic cannons at Clay, but it did nothing. "Blue, don't give us away! We haven't even told the team yet!" I said as he shrugged. "Tell us what?" I heard KF say from behind me, and I turned to see him smirking. He was good at that.
Clay let out a loud laugh, giving Batgirl enough time to swoop in and throw two pills, hardening Clay. "You two are dating, aren't you? Oh man, this means we owe Karen thirty bucks! Couldn't this have waited another week? I would've gotten thirty then!" Batgirl said as she ran a hand down her face. Wally let out a squeal of excitement. "Finally, I'm going to prove Artemis wrong!" He said as he jumped up and down in excitement.
"Really? No congrats? Geez." Jaime said as he rolled his eyes. We headed out to the alley where the zeta tubes were, and we zeated back to the cave. As soon as we got there, Barbara pulled out her wallet and threw thirty bucks in Karen's face. Karen's jaw dropped at the money, and looked at me and Jaime. "Does this mean...?" She asked as she looked at us in shock, and we both nodded.
She squealed and jumped up and down. "Everybody, pay up! My favorite couple just got together!" She said as everyone sighed and began to pull out their wallets. "Woah, woah, woah, was everyone in on this?" I asked as I crossed my arms. "Yup." The whole room echoed and I sighed. "Ha, ha, ha!" Wally said as he sped around Artemis, who rolled her eyes but smiled.
"Finally, I was starting to lose hope." M'gann said as she wrapped me and Jaime in a hug, the rest of the team joining in, even Conner and Dick. "Really?!" I said as I gasped for air. "It's only been, like, what-" I began, but the team interrupted. "Two months." They all said. "We started placing bets a month ago." Dick said. I sighed. "Well, I always did like the color blue." I said as I put my head on my new boyfriend's shoulder, making him smile.
