Tatum walked through the unfamiliar training ground, following the instructions given to her by the lady at reception. It wasn't quite to the standard they had at Barcelona, but it was still very nice, a lot higher of a standard than a lot of other clubs. It took her slightly longer to reach her destination, but she got there eventually, knocking on the door twice before the door being opened, her potential future coach standing there with a big smile.
"Miss Madden, it's nice to meet you properly! My name's Jonas." He greeted, smile warm and inviting as he stuck his hand out to shake.
Tatum accepted the hand shake. "It's Tatum, nice to meet you Jonas. On not as...tense terms."
Jonas laughed and motioned for Tatum to sit on the couch in his office, placing a bottle of water in front of her.
"So, you thought about my offer, no?"
"I did."
"And?"
"And...I'm intrigued."
Jonas nodded, smiling to himself. He knew players like Tatum, they need to be the best. And winning everything possible with two different teams puts Tatum well on her way to that. He stood up quickly and walked over to his desk, grabbing two files and putting them down. "Okay. This file here, this is the contract we want to offer you. But I want to talk to you first, okay?"
Tatum said nothing, but did nod.
"I speak to Leah a lot about tactics, well more so she speaks to me about it and makes me listen. But she always credits you for her opinions, says you teach her everything she knows. I seen it a little in the Euro's, but those two champions league games is when I really got to see it. I watched you read the plays. Sometimes you would just stop what you were doing and look at around the pitch for a few seconds, then the next thing you've discovered how to beat whatever tactic is happening. How you read the game is a gift. And that needs to be used. When we talked after the Champions League, I meant what I said. I'd want you helping with tactics, If you think a different player would be better starting, explain to me, tell me what you see. Be that manager on the pitch."
Tatum's eyes widened slightly as she interrupted Jonas. "Sir, I don't want to be captain."
"You don't have to be. Leave the captain duties to the captains. But you, you could be the manager on the pitch, controlling the game. You're this weird hybrid of a player who wants to be challenged, can dance around anyone on the pitch, and someone who reads the game better than anyone I've seen. When you add on to this that you've been at Barcelona since you were 16, you've had that team to learn from players who have been the best in the world for a long time. But I see it in you, you want to be competitive. You want the competition. You have the potential to be the best in the world, by far. I truly think being at arsenal would unlock that for you. Now, I'm going to leave you here for 5 minutes why you have a quick look through the contract, I'll also send a copy to your agent. But I want you to see just how much we value you." Jonas finished his statement by handing over one of the files to Tatum before nodding at her and leaving his office.
Tatum was still reeling by his words.
He's said all the right things, if she's being honest. Thing's she wanted to hear.
She looks at the folder and opening it up, eyes nearly falling out of her head.
World record transfer fee.
Her breathing became unsteady as she read the figure over and over again.
£1,100,000.
The first female player to break that 1 million pound barrier.
