Just a small heads up, I believe chapters 5.3, 5.4 and possibly 5.5 will be around 5k to 7.5k words.

This chapter, however, will stay the normal length.

Year 850, Wall Rose.

Zeke Yeager hopped off the Cart Titan's back, along with a team of Marleyan soldiers wearing protective gear.

The invasion was going swiftly, so far. Ever since the four warriors departed on their mission to capture the Founding Titan, all traces of them were lost. They never showed up at the bay, so it was reasonable that after several years, the command started to grow restless.

Logically, they'd send him.

The son of two notable rebels, which he gave away to the authorities, who started as a talentless deadweight, eventually turned out to be the most vital part of Marley's defence. He could summon his own titans, using his scream.

Marleyans weren't aware of this, but Zeke himself was pretty sure that he could attribute it to his heritage. His mother, Dina Fritz, was a Royal Family descendant after all.

Thus, Zeke concluded that he could somehow imitate the Founder's power.

Their plan was simple. Find a small village, turn the inhabitants into titans, and create a diversion, so that he could get some intel on the whereabouts of the missing Warriors.

"We're going to release the gas now, Mr Yeager."

Zeke hummed. "Get into position. We're starting now."

"Yes sir!" The men saluted before making the necessary preparations for this new method of turning people into titans, the gas method.

The premise was simple:

Zeke's spinal fluid would be turned into a gas through a chemical process and then released into the air. This intern would give him the ability to turn any Eldian into a Titan without having to put any hands on them.

This method was still very new, however. If they didn't get the wind direction right, the gas would blow in their direction instead.

"Ready when you are!" One of the Marleyans confirmed.

"Alright, release it!"

Zeke watched as dozens of pounds of spinal fluid gas was released into the air, into Rakugo Village.

It was such a pity, honestly.

If only Eldians were never born in the first place.

Inside the village, there was a sense of unease brewing. They had heard about the attacks on Karaness and the Trost Incident.

"Hey! What's going on?! What's that cloud over there!?"

The wind started to pick up.

"I don't know! Don't inhale it! You'll die!"

"Run!"

"Hey! Where's Miss Springer?!"

"I don't know! I think she's a-asleep or something—"

"Go wake her up!"

"But it's too late! Run!"

The people started to scramble and flee in a desperate attempt to save themselves however futile the effort was, they still tried.

The Marleyans observed with a bit of concern, Zeke narrowing his eyes in the process. This was a part of his calculations, them attempting to flee the unknown substance but upon hearing the strange, almost traumatized comments coming from the residents...
