I just checked my demographics and found out that I have no readers from Denmark but do have some from the rest of the Nordics. YOUR QUEEN ABDICATED INSTEAD OF DYING ON THE THRONE LIKE A TRUE G—SHE ISN'T LIZZY THE SECOND!________________________________________________________________________________
The horses trotted along a narrow trail as the remaining Survey Corps commanders moved, the low thud of hooves the only sound cutting through the morning fog.
Erwin and Hange rode at the front, both keeping their gazes forward, each lost in their own thoughts.
The others trailed closely behind.
Three months had passed since Historia's coronation and the death of Ayanokouji Kiyotaka.
Hange sighed quietly, and Erwin glanced her way, raising an eyebrow at her uncharacteristic quiet.
She caught his look, managing a small smile, but her eyes betrayed her unease.
"Strange, isn't it?" she murmured. "Historia has been queen for three months, and yet..."
"And yet peace feels like a house of cards," Erwin finished for her.
His voice was steady, as usual, but there was a guardedness there. The silence they had both grown used to over the past few weeks was unsettling, as if waiting to be shattered at any moment.
Hange nodded, biting her lip thoughtfully. "Levi and Mikasa...they're still comatose," she said, her voice catching just slightly. "Hard to believe, right? To see them like that. Levi especially."
The operation to retake Wall Maria was delayed for this very reason.
Two of Humanity's strongest soldiers were beaten into an inch of death's door by a brown-haired boy who hadn't even reached his 20th birthday yet. Along with loads of psychological trauma caused by the constant war brought upon by 'Him,' they've decided to postpone the operation until their strength has recovered.
Again... the strength and battle intelligence of 'Him' was....
That kind of strength and battle intelligence was unnatural. It couldn't have come naturally.
It was a shame he was on the other side rather than on theirs...
Erwin could've used him—
No, actually, it would most likely be the opposite.
Erwin's gaze hardened. "Yes. Levi... of all people, I never thought—" He paused, swallowing hard. "He's always been the most unbreakable of us."
"It's not just them, either," Hange continued, pulling her reins lightly as they came up on a small rise in the trail. "The entire Wall system is... it's barely holding. Sure, there's peace, but it's so fragile. Almost unreal." She turned to Erwin with a look that seemed to hold a thousand thoughts. "People are calmer, yes. The nobility's been quiet, the capital's quiet, and yet the Survey Corps itself—"
"We've never had such an unsteady peace." Erwin's tone was clipped, and his eyes were distant as if he could already see the storm on the horizon.
The whole situation felt like a temporary ceasefire. They'd managed to catch Rod Reiss alive, but for what? He sat in prison, a quiet, brooding figure, yet even he didn't stir the people's ire anymore.
It was as if everyone in the kingdom was waiting... but for what?
Hange pulled her horse closer to Erwin's, glancing back to make sure the rest of their small group was still in formation.
