Chapter going the LONG WAY!

10 Days after the Survey Corps' Detainment, State of Eldia
"Hey."
"Yeah?"
"You ever wonder why we're here?"
One of the greatest mysteries behind the Walls, no doubt. Not just the source of the materials used to build the walls, but also what had brought Ayanokouji Kiyotaka here, adding to the growing list of mysteries.
And yet, as puzzling as that was, another question lingered: why were two Interior Policemen, armed with the latest breach-loading rifles, guarding this particular prison?
Sure, the answer might be in their name—Interior Police. They were, after all, tasked with high-level security. But arming them with expensive, cutting-edge weapons for this particular post felt like overkill. They weren't stationed on a battlefield. Except...inside this prison resided two Ackermans, two Titan Shifters, and the heir to the throne of Eldia herself.
Even so, the over-preparation nagged at them.
"Isn't that a dumb question?" his partner scoffed.
"Hey, I'm just saying. What if they break out before they come up with a cover story? Wouldn't that be a huge problem?"
His partner shrugged. "Meh. Not really our problem, is it? Hey, when's our shift rotation again?"
"Not for a few more minutes, I think."
The Interior Police were considered elite, a step above the Military Police, who were largely drunk on their cushy, corrupt roles. Unlike them, the Interior Police were fiercely loyal to the regime, trusted with the deepest secrets and stationed at critical posts.
Not that this prison looked important from the outside, but appearances could be deceiving.
"Ever fired one of these new rifles?" the first guard asked, running his fingers along the cool metal of the breach-loader.
"Nope. I heard only the mountain squads used them. They're the ones who deal with the rebels hiding up there."
"Ah, right... They're probably all dead now."
"Yeah, but they did bring in some spoils before they got wiped. Remember those masks and rifles they sent to the capital?"
"Oh yeah, those rapid-fire rifles that supposedly shoot a thousand bullets a minute?"
"Mhm. I think the higher-ups are reverse-engineering them. Pretty sure those masks were designed to protect against the gas the OFTL used."
"Reverse-engineer? Dude, I don't even know what that means."
The first guard sighed. Their job wasn't to ask questions, especially now. Everything had shifted rapidly—too rapidly. One moment the regime was silencing all opposition and the next, their bosses had subdued the entire Survey Corps.
Still, the finer details escaped them.
They were here to prevent anyone from escaping, and if that happened... well, that's what their rifles were for.
"I'm bored," one of them muttered, breaking the silence.
"Wanna just head in now?"
"Yeah, fuck it. Maybe we can mess with Captain Levi."
