"Strategy sets the scene for the tale. I'm the wind in our free-flowing sails."

~*~*~

The weeks have passed by quickly. Luke and I finished all the working parts of the project and now all that's left is to nail out the final details.

I've been spending all my time with Luke and it's been surprisingly exhilarating. He makes me feel alive in a way I've never felt before. I feel wanted and appreciated and it's truly all I've wanted in life.

I'd like to think that Luke is now one of my best friends. I cherish his friendship more than anything but the fact that once this project is over we will go back to how it was is settling way too harshly on my chest. It's making me sad.

He hasn't seemed to mind that I've been actually attaching myself to his hip. I don't really know why I've been doing it but I just want to soak up every last bit of attention I can get from him.

I've made Yost Ice Arena my home every day for about a week now. Watching Luke pratice from the stands has been really fun.

Speak of the devil, Luke hops onto the bench and comes to sit where there is a gap in the glass. He pulls his helmet off so that it's resting on top of his head. A mop of curls spill out from where his helmet kept them hidden.

"Hi." His face is flushed from exertion, lips twisted into that crooked smile I love so much.

"Hey you. Is pratice over?" I slip my bookmark into my page and close it on my lap. Luke looks down on it and smiles wider.

"Almost. Am I not entertaining enough. What are you reading about?"

I quickly stand up and sit my ass down on the book. He does not need to know what this book is about, I would honestly never hear the end of it if he knew.

Luke taps his stick against the glass. "That bad huh?"

Shaking my head I refuse to answer him. My actions only make Luke's smile widen. I don't know how the poor guy hasn't split his face with his lips stretched that far.

"Are you reading dirty books in public Lainey the shadow?" He hums slightly. Even from the other side of the glass the noise vibrates over my skin and dances around my bones.

He leans in closer and drops his voice so whatever comes out of his mouth next is a secret only I can hear. "Thanks to you I have to go back out on that ice and imagine you over here squirming. Thighs pressed together as you read about all the things I dream of doing to you."

My mouth is agape. I'm sitting here like a fish out of water because what in the fuck did he just say to me. I can't say anything back because i'm actually speechless.

"Hughes! Get your ass on the ice and stop flirting with that poor girl. She looks two seconds away from dying."

With that Luke sends me a wink that skitters straight down to my core before he hops over the boards and skates away like he didn't just melt my brain.

I am nervous to talk to Luke after what happened earlier but I need to get to work and he will be upset if I leave without talking to him so, I'm waiting outside of Yost Ice on a bench under the sun.

"There you are, I thought you left already." Luke breaths a sigh of relief when he finally spots me.

"Not yet. I have to get going soon though."

"That's fine, I'll see you in class tomorrow right?"

He looks hopeful. I want to laugh because I have yet to miss a class. "Yeah. My shift starts soon. Bye Hughesy."

I sling my purse over my shoulder and start walking when Luke's hand clasps tightly over my wrist stopping me in my tracks.

"Did you bring your car?"

"No, I'm gonna walk to work."

"Let me walk you."

I look him up and down with a laugh before I try to wave him off. I take a step but his grip stays firm. "Oh sugar, that wasn't a question. Let's go."

I am momentarily stunned again. Never in my life has anyone left me completely speechless but Luke continues to do it day after day.

He walks me to my work and waits until he knows I am clocked in and safe before he takes off back to campus. When I was finish with my shift he is waiting outside.

It is really nice to have him put in the effort to make sure I was safe when I haven't even asked him too. Nobody has ever really cared enough to do it. Luke's personality is so unique to anyone I have ever met, he always shows up. I've never had anyone who always shows up.
