Chapter 75: The Useless Game NPC
After joining the Nightcrawler organization, raiding the Rare Card Hunter warehouse with the Nightcrawlers. Meeting Kaiba and demanding Kaiba to change some of the rules of the Battle City and giving an explanation for it on the same night, a few days after those events, Yuei was spending his time idly at the Dream Card Shop. Greeting customers and assisting Itou Chika on her job in the morning while at Night, he was spending his days at the Night Crawler organization dueling others in a Card Game to level himself up and do his daily missions.
Currently, it was afternoon. He was at the Dream Card Shop holding a broom and sweeping the dust off the floor. Letting out a yawn, he ignored Chika who was staring at him as usual instead of doing her homework and the continous+ 5 that kept popping out above her head.
Never did Yuei think that having a high Charm Stat would be troublesome. People who would pass by would casually gain a favorable impression of him and they would be mesmerized by his handsome looks. At first, Yuei enjoyed being appreciated by the people. However, it started to become bothersome to the point that it unnerved him.
Yuei knows that it is too late to regret his choices if he gains a bunch of stalkers. Yuei was learning to ignore people staring at him. Even with those cons, the pros that he gained by having a High Charm Stat are really helpful for him.
And with this world being something that solely focuses on Card Games, Yuei was assured that there would be nothing terrifying that would happen to him. Something terrifying that would end up with him being trapped in a basement because of a serial killer falling in love with him or along with those scenes.
He was here at the Dream Card Shop waiting for the last remaining days until the players arrived in this world. Once they arrive, Yuei's life here in this world will be easier.
The players would be his source of crystals which he could use so that he could retrieve more cards from the Game System. In a few days, he just needs to battle a random NPC passerby mob in one of the Duel Gyms and show his Elemental Heroes. Then the players would make their conclusions. Mistaking him as the Game 'Protagonist' because he has a 'Yu' in his name. After all, despite him not having a strange hairstyle like the various Yu-Gi-Oh protagonists, his face wasn't someone who screamed mob Cannon fodder.
No one would dare to mistake his face for a Mob. At worst, the players would mistake him as an important character. The most likely outcome was for them to mistake him for a Game Protagonist. Even if there wasn't one it wouldn't likely exist.
Before he time-traveled and was put into this world, the Game Protagonist didn't exist. Only the anime Yu-Gi-Oh Protagonist. The company that made this game has only added various game NPCs and enemies. After that, there is none.
With the players mistaking him as a protagonist, they would do their best to cater favor to him and Yuei could initiate tasking them with various quests and he could also create a shop that those players would salivate over. A shop possessing various banned cards. He can't wait for those players to flock over him.
While Yuei was daydreaming and sweeping the floor, the door to the Dream Card Shop opened. Itou Chika stopped paying attention to Yuei and her eyes moved to her various homework. Her hand held her pen and started answering the several questions in her notebooks. All of her attention is on her homework.
She looks like she was a diligent and hardworking student. Seeing her quick change of attitude, Yuei is dumbfounded. If what he had seen for the previous days and just a while ago, he would believe the facade that she wanted to reveal to their customers.
Speaking of customers, Yuei turned his gaze towards the customer who entered the game shop. Surprise and various conflicting emotions resurfaced in Yuei's mind.
He didn't expect to see the person in front of him so soon. Joey Wheeler or Jonouichi Katsuya was standing at the entrance of the Dream Card Shop.
The one where Yuei didn't expect to get a Draw after the Duel. The one that planted various doubts in his mind regarding this world.
Putting his best customer service smile, Yuei Vu asked Joey.
" Welcome to Dream Card Shop, Katsuya-san. Do you have a problem with your Duel Disk? "
For a second, Joey stared at him before shaking his head and grimacing. Grumbling, he replied.
" You could apply to be a Magazine Model, Yuei-san. Why are you working for a Card Shop? "
Joey ignored the glare coming from the silver-haired girl Itou Chika. Continuing Joey says as he glances outside the Dream Card Shop's door.
" There is no problem with the Duel Disk that was given to me. "
" Are you here to buy card packs? "
" If I would buy card packs, I could just buy them at Yugi's grandpa's shop. "
Yuei decided to ignore how rude his statement was or how Chika's glare became worse from her seat. Before Yuei could say anything, Joey added.
" However, Yugi and the others are outside the shop. "
" Yugi? "
" Yes... "
Joey trailed off and opened the door to the shop. Shouting, he says.
" Get in, guys! Why are you still outside? And most importantly, you Horo! You're the one that needed to buy Card packs, aren't you? "
With the door opened, various high school students entered the room.
The 1st Yu-Gi-Oh protagonist Muto Yugi. Tea Gardner also known as Mazaki Anzu is the female lead and childhood friend of Yugi. Tristan Taylor/Hiroto Honda, Joey's friend. Bakura Ryou, possessor of the Millennium Ring. Duke Devlin/Otoji Ryuji, Tristan's rival and a Pegasus simp.
And finally, there's another high school student from Domino High School accompanying them. A young man with seaweed hair and crimson eyes. His expression was languid and every moment that he made was lacking in energy and minimal at best. Yuei couldn't think that he resembled someone for some reason. But he has forgotten who.
[ Name: Horo Tokio
Role: Mob Character
Level: 30 ]Upon gazing at the unknown young man, the game system popped up. Informing Yuei of the young man's identity.
After being informed of his identity, Yuei realizes the identity of this character in front of him.
One of the Game's NPCs was 'added' by the company on the Game. His background information is of the 2nd richest character next to Kaiba in the Domino City. A sickly young master who has a world-famous idol and actress as his sister. This young man would also become one of the Card designers in the Industrial Illusions but never really card-designed anything on the company.
He was said to be Kaiba Noah's friend and one of the Game Masters of Seto Kaiba aside from the 4 heavenly kings of Season 0.
According to the players, Horo Tokio is a useless NPC game add-on by the company. His quest is trash and only rewarded with Meager Exp. He was a piece of decoration that his only purpose was to make Noah be seen as a sympathetic villain. Players' rage at this lazy ass motherfucker was implied to have something ongoing with Kageyama Risa, a cute and beautiful-looking Season 0 villain.
For Yuei who joined after DM ended in the game, he doesn't have much of any impression regarding this NPC despite Yu-Gi-Oh player veterans seething in rage as this lazy-ass NPC got surrounded himself by pretty girls in his club and appeared to be rich as fuck. It also didn't help that after beating this useless NPC in a fight, the rewards he gives are meager experts only.
After glancing at Horo Tokio, he notices that the Game NPC is staring at him intensely. Yuei could only sigh.
' Another victim of my High Charm Stat. '
Yuei regretfully lamented inside his mind. However, Yuei didn't expect when startled reactions and worried gasps resounded inside the shop.
" Horo-san!!! " " Tokio-kun! "
Horo Tokio loses consciousness while observing him. Yuei was dumbfounded. He has never seen someone show this kind of intense reaction upon seeing his face.
