Taelyn stirred from her sleep, the soft rays of morning sunlight filtering through the curtains and casting a warm glow across the room. She blinked away the remnants of sleep, her gaze automatically seeking out the familiar form of Heeseung lying beside her.
But to her surprise, the space next to her was empty, the sheets rumpled from where he had slept. Confusion furrowed her brow as she sat up, her mind racing with questions.
Where had Heeseung gone? Why wasn't he still by her side? Why was he always leaving?
She didn't want to entirely comply with it, but she knew he was up to no good. Heeseung had always been the type to believe in "eye for an eye," thus she was anxious about what what happening during his disappearance.
There was no way she could contact him since he had taken away her phone the night he took her away from her one.
Fighting back worry, Taelyn pushed herself to her feet and made her way downstairs. She hoped that Heeseung would return soon, that whatever had taken him away from her side wouldn't keep him away for long. But until then, all she could do was wait.
As she waited, her mind raced with a flurry of worry and anticipation. Each passing minute felt like an eternity, the silence of the empty house amplifying the weight of her concern.
Finally, the sound of footsteps approaching the door sent a rush of relief flooding through her veins. With bated breath, she rose to her feet.
Heeseung stepped into the room, and Taelyn's eyes met his, a mixture of relief flickering in their depths. "Welcome home," she said, her voice filled with relief.
"Hi, princess," he whispered. A smile peaked out from his lip, however there was a recognizable harshness in his expression.
"Where have you been?" She went straight to the point. "I've been worried? Why do you always slip away without giving me a heads up?"
"There was something I had to take care of," he brushed her off, getting ready to walk away from her.
She wasn't dumb.
She already knew. She stomps toward him, the same way he did the day the man choked her, and grabs the zipper of his hoodie. He simply watches her as she unzipped and removed it from him. There they were, bruises marring his fist, a reminder of the lengths he was willing to go to protect her. "What happened?" she asked, her voice tinged with concern as she reached out to gently touch his injured hand.
Heeseung hesitated for a moment before meeting her gaze, a mixture of guilt and determination flickering in his eyes. "I took care of it," he replied cryptically, his voice edged with a hint of exhaustion.
Taelyn's heart weakened at the sight of his bruised hand. "You didn't have to do that," she exclaimed.
But Heeseung simply shook his head, his gaze unwavering as he met her eyes. "I couldn't just stand by and do nothing," he admitted, his voice tinged with a mixture of regret and determination. "Not when it comes to you. Don't worry, I won. Obviously. He's not in very good shape right now."
