A week had passed since Meredith found out she was pregnant and had an abortion. Once she and Addison had arrived home she took the medication to start the process and a week later she was still feeling the effects and was still bleeding. She knew that this was normal, but that certainly didn't make it enjoyable. Thankfully, Addison had been by her side making sure she was comfortable and wiping her countless tears away. Meredith had also been texting with Cristina a lot and was really enjoying having another friend. Cristina knew what had happened with Derek, but it wasn't something that ever came up and she found her friendship with Cristina helping her feel more normal.
She and Addison had just finished breakfast, Meredith struggling to eat due to the effects of the abortion but Addison assured her that the little bit she managed to both eat and keep down was more than enough. The two spent the majority of the time either cuddled up in Meredith's bed or on the couch watching movies, the blonde not feeling up to much more than laying down. Unfortunately, her pregnancy brought on more flashbacks and nightmares but Addison comforted her through each one and Meredith was confident that with the redhead by her side she could get through anything.
Cristina was in the tunnels of the hospital texting Meredith about a crazy case she had assisted on where the patient swallowed ten Judy doll heads when her pager went off with an incoming case in the pit. Gathering her belongings, she quickly took off and made it just in time to hear the patient screaming that everyone was too incompetent to go near her and threatening to report them all to the chief. She took the woman's chart and felt her heart stop when she read the patient's name: Ellis Grey.
Quickly reading through the chart she found that the woman suffered from Alzheimer's, only being diagnosed eight months ago meaning that Meredith had no idea of her mother's condition. Cristina looked up at Dr. Bailey, her eyes wide. "Dr. Bailey? Do you need me for this? I need to find Dr. Robbins." The resident opened her mouth to respond, but the intern was already gone.
Cristina quickly ran to the peds wing on the hunt for Arizona, taking the stairs two at a time. She went up to the nurses station to ask the nurses where the attending was, only to be told that she was currently in surgery. Cursing to herself, she made her way to the OR floor, relieved to find Arizona scrubbing out. She entered the scrub room after taking a deep breath in an effort to calm herself down. Arizona looked up when the scrub room door opened, immediately concerned by the look on the interns face. She looked over at her intern for the day, Izzie Stevens who was eyeing the two suspiciously.
"Dr. Yang, is everything alright?" Arizona asked, concern evident in her voice. It wasn't often that something threw the intern off but clearly something had happened that left Cristina looking lost. She watched the brunette glance at Izzie and then back at her, silently communicating that it was a private matter. "Dr. Stevens, could you please go inform the patient's family that the surgery was a success and let them know I will check in shortly?" She asked, not much leaving room for discussion. Izzie agreed, rolling her eyes as she walked out, annoyed that was going to miss out on possible gossip. Once the door shut behind the blonde intern Arizona looked at Cristina expectly.
"We just admitted a case down in the pit, possible diverticulitis. The patient was also diagnosed with Alzheimer's eight months ago." She pauses to release a breath and notices Arizona's confused expression, most likely wondering why she felt the need to tell this information to a pediatric surgeon. "The patient's name is Ellis Grey. Meredith's mother." Arizona inhales sharply.
"If she was diagnosed eight months ago then Meredith has no idea. Okay, let's go to my office and call Addison. Is that it? Just possible diverticulitis and Alzheimer's?" Arizona asked with a sigh as they made their way to her office. She unlocked the door and the two entered, her immediately grabbing her phone and scrolling to Addison's contact.
