Down on Me - Jeremih

A year later

Dearra stood in her kitchen while she held the vlogging camera just inches from her face. She was recording a Youtube video for her vlogging channel. She simply took her audience with her throughout the day, it was basically like a day inside of Dearra's life and close up that other influencers didn't provide. Her supporters loved vlogs, because she was always doing something in the city that was entertaining.

"Do y'all prefer Ulta or Sephora?" She asked, while reapplying her lip gloss that had disappeared over the hours, "I be at both for real, but I think if I had to pick, I would only shop at Sephora. Sephora has more luxury and designer brands low key." She continued her ramble session for a few more minutes before turning the camera off.

By that time, Dearra had grown hungry and didn't know if she wanted to make something, or just Doordash. See the thing about ordering food is it's always so much higher than if you just drove to the restaurant yourself. She looked in the huge, but empty refrigerator and decided to order food. Dearra made a mental note to order groceries later, because her refrigerator appeared to lack essentials.

As she waited for the dasher to deliver the food, she entertained herself with social media. Social media was Dearra's entire life. Without social platforms, she wouldn't be able to support her lifestyle, this was her main source of income. And she absolutely loved that, because her career wasn't traditional, neither was it easy.

You have to claim a certain personality and aesthetic to be a social media influencer. You had to be willing to spend hours in front of a camera even when you didn't feel like it. You had to be motivated to edit videos, and understand how to use the software to edit. You couldn't be lazy, because there was always opportunity for content creation and collaboration.

As she scrolled through Instagram the typical people came up. Dearra tried not to have such a huge following, she followed those that held significance in her life. She didn't follow the weird shade pages that exposed celebrities' personal business either. Although Dearra's job was to post her life for the entertainment of others, there were parts she wanted to remain personal and closed off.

Dearra wasn't a hater either, being sure to like and comment on the posts of others. She scrolled through her explore page hoping to find inspiration for her next nail set.

"Wait, these kinda ate." She said aloud while saving the post for later. Her search was cut short when an incoming call from Destiny, her best friend came.

She pressed the accept button, putting the phone on speaker. "Dearra!" Her friend said loudly, making her flinch in response.

"Stop yelling so much, where you at?" Dearra asked, as she picked up the food that was finally delivered.
