A Couple of Forevers - Chrisette Michele
Since the group meeting that happened in the restroom, Dearra had been overwhelmed. She was too scared to take a pregnancy test at home, so she scheduled an appointment.
Dearra, Destiny, and Jayda all sat in the waiting room of the doctor's office. Dearra's foot constantly tapped against the floor, she was anxious and nauseous. She hadn't eaten, because everything made her throw up.
The girls all sat in pure silence. The trio had never been seen so quiet and serious. They sat in a row holding hands, it was almost like a scene from a young adult movie. The type of movie where one friend took "For the plot?" too seriously.
Dearra looked around the dully colored office. The cream colored walls didn't provide much comfort. Her eyes focused on the many pregnant bellies in the waiting room. Some of the future mother's there had a significant other next to them, meanwhile others were here alone. Dearra was grateful for her friends who were always there.
The nurse appeared from behind the door, "Dearra Taylor." She said, making all three get up and walk to the examination room.
With a smile the nurse spoke, "So we're going to get your weight, height, and temperature." Dearra quickly took off her shoes and passed her purse to Destiny.
The nurse quickly recorded the information, "Perfect, we're going to go into room two."
Dearra sat on the bed, while Dess and Jayda sat in the chairs. The nurse stood and typed the information on the laptop.
Breaking the silence, the nurse stated, "Okay, what brings you in today?"
Dearra replied, "I need a pregnancy test."
The nurse nodded while typing, "When's the last time you had your cycle?"
Dearra thought about it for a while, making a sudden realization, "Maybe three to four weeks ago, but it's normal for my cycle to be irregular." she explained.
"When's the last time you had sexual intercourse?"
Dearra looked at her friends who awaited for her to answer, "Like three days ago."
The nurse typed everything up on the laptop, "Okay, I'll explain everything to the doctor. We're going to do a urine test and blood sample. The blood is more like a confirmation, since the urine is typically correct. If it comes back positive, you'll schedule another appointment with the doctor. Everything sounds okay?" The nurse thoroughly told Dearra the run down of her visit.
"Sounds great." Dearra responded.
The nurse reached into the cabinet and pulled out a pregnancy test, "Perfect. Go to the restroom and urinate on the stick and put it into this plastic bag. The results take around five minutes, so give it to me at the desk and I'll set a timer and come back."
