"Well, that's just rubbish, isn't it?" Ophelia laughed with Hermione as they sat in the Great Hall, watching students put their names in the goblet. "He must know he can't win," Ophelia commented, mocking a boy who had just entered.

Hermione nudged her, trying to hide her own amusement. "Ophelia, don't be mean!" she said, holding in her laughter.

"It's the truth!" Ophelia defended. "Oh look, a new contender," she pointed out, noticing a Hufflepuff boy being pushed towards the goblet by his friends.

"It's Cedric." Hermione points out once they see his face. "He's top of his class. Rather good, I've heard."

"Maybe this one actually stands a chance," Ophelia whispered to Hermione.

"Come on, Cedric. Put it in!" They pushed him into the circle where the goblet was. He slowly placed his name in the fire, causing the crowd to cheer for him. He was quite popular.

After Cedric entered his name, Ophelia directed her attention back to her book, overhearing Ron and Harry's conversation.

"Eternal glory. It'd be brilliant, wouldn't it? Three years from now, when we're old enough to be chosen," Ron said, fantasizing about entering. Ophelia shook her head. No way would she let Ron enter any kind of death tournament.

"Yeah, rather you than me," Harry said, against the idea.

"Only an idiot would sign up for something like that," Ophelia commented, earning a punch on the shoulder from Hermione. "Ow! What was that for?"

"So you think I'm an idiot?" Cedric Diggory stood in front of Ophelia, smiling down at her.

"If the shoe fits..." Ophelia replied, not regretting her words. Cedric seemed even more amused by her spunk.

"Well, if you thought that was idiotic, wait until you hear this." He sat down next to her. Ophelia eyed him suspiciously. "Would you like to go on a date with me? On the next trip to Hogsmeade, we could get something to eat, just you and I," he asked tentatively.

Ophelia looked like a deer caught in headlights, and Ron was no better.

"I-um, I don't know... I have a lot of things to do and homework I need to finish," Ophelia started making up excuses.

"Since when do you worry about your homework? Don't be silly, go," Hermione encouraged, making Ron shake his head and Ophelia glare at her.

"No, no Hermione. Ophelia's right, she can't just flunk her assignments," Ron said, really not liking the idea of his sister going out with a boy—an older, popular boy with quite a reputation.

"Nonsense. I'll do it for you, I don't mind. And Harry will help too, isn't that right, Harry?"

Never in his life had Harry wanted to strangle Hermione more than now. But he masked his displeasure perfectly. "Not at all, if that's what Ophelia wants," he said through a gritted smile.
