A'Yuan was able to move in with me at the Gentian house. He's doing better and he's also been spending time with Lan Zhan. A'Yuan is at the age to learn about cultivation and Lan Zhan wanted to train him personally. I was okay with it. As much as I wanted to help A'Yuan, I didn't have the spiritual energy anymore to do anything. So while A'Yuan was out, I hid away from everyone else in the Gentian House.

I'd skip meals and spend time in the bedroom mourning my sister and the Wens. I hid my pain really well as I've always had and no one else seemed to either notice or care. I needed to leave but I didn't know where to go to be honest. I was safe for the moment but who's to say I won't get betrayed by a Lan and then everyone will be here wanting my head.

I wrote a letter,

I know I said I would stay but no one seems to understand my pain. If A'Yuan is with me, he will be in danger. Lan Zhan, I don't want to put the responsibility on you but please take care of him and don't come find me. I will return one day. I just need time alone. I can't be in this sect.

I love you Lan Zhan, I want you to know that, and I will keep my promise on returning one day. But I need to do this on my own. If you were in my shoes you'd understand.

Please take care of A'Yuan and Yourself.

Wei Ying

Once I wrote it, I left it on the table and gathered my flute and my sword. I couldn't use the sword itself but I can at least block with it for self-defense. I then managed to sneak out of Cloud Recesses undetected. I had money that Lan Zhan had given me not long ago. I used some of it to buy new robes and a mask. I needed to hide my identity.

Thus my journey began. I thought that I should try to find my grandmaster. I doubt she could help me but it's the first thought I came up with. I knew that her place was located in Yiling or beyond Yiling. No one has actually ventured on the other side of the mounds. No one has ever walked all the way through the place. I decided to give it a shot. The energy had no effect on me and I even had control over it still. I even asked it to guide me through the Mounds.

I was soon brought to a whole new cave that I haven't seen before. It was a stone archway with stone stairs leading inside. I followed and inside was a stone path leading through a large cave pond. The path led to a lone peach blossom tree in the center of the pond. I started to make my way over but noticed that there was traps set to guard it. Using my speed and agility I made it to the other side and to the tree. I tripped over a stone but didn't fall. I braced myself on the tree but my hand was cut. My blood on the tree seemed to have activated a portal and the traps were put away. Before I could go into the portal, a woman stepped out holding a a stunning silver sword.

"Who are you? How did you break through my traps and activate my portal?" She asked pointing the sword right to my neck

"Who are you? How did you break through my traps and activate my portal?" She asked pointing the sword right to my neck.

"I just used speed and agility to get through but I tripped and cut my hand and my blood touched the tree. The portal appeared," I explained.

"Only those of the bloodline or are former disciples can activate the portal. You have a mask on, I don't know you so I don't trust you," the woman said.

"Can I remove the mask and tell you my name?" I asked.

"Better start talking, I am not all that patient," she replied.

I removed the mask and I saw her eyes widen. I didn't understand her expression but I continued to introduce myself, "my name is Wei Ying, courtesy name, Wei Wuxian. I wasn't born within a sect but I grew up mostly within the Jiang Sect as that was where my father grew up."

"Who is your father?" The woman asked.

"Wei Changze," I answered, "my mother's name is Cangse Sanren."

The woman put her black back in its sheathe and stepped closer to me, "you have her eyes and her smile. You look like her," the woman said, "how did you find this place?"

"I stumbled upon it," I answered, "I have been through a lot and I am a person facing false charges for killing people and trying to save people. I gave up everything and lost everything. I don't really have anywhere else to go so I am just trying to find somewhere to recover from my trauma long enough so I can heal and come back and make those fool sect cultivators pay for accusing me for crimes I never committed."

"Do you know who I am?" The woman asked.

"I didn't look at you probably because I didn't want to offend you. I was always taught that I shouldn't look my superiors in the eyes. I was just a servant at the time," I explained.

"You are my daughter's son and you became a servant? Your father wasn't even treated like that yet people assumed he was a servant," the woman said.

I finally got a good look at her, "you are Baoshan Sanren."

"I am, and as you are related by blood, it explains why you can open my portal. Come, we can talk more inside," she said.

"Really?" I asked.

"Of course, and I have a feeling that you have been through a lot," she said, "I have to ask, your parents were both cultivators, I sense your spiritual energy is very low, but also tainted like your father's."

"My father could use resentment?" I asked.

"His bloodline was the only one that could handle it and not be affected by it," Baoshan said, "he was the last of his people but you being his son, it still lives on."

"Is that why he died along with my mother? He could do things that others were jealous of?" I asked.

"I don't know how your parents died but I know they wouldn't want you to be suffering like this. You didn't answer me, what happened to your spiritual energy?" She asked.

"It doesn't bother you that I use resentment?" I asked.

"No, I used to dislike anyone using it but I soon lost a friend because of that and I have long since moved on. I hope she will forgive me one day," she said.

"I met her, Lan Yi, her spirit was guarding the Cold Cave in Cloud Recesses. She was holding a piece of the Yin Iron that was later destroyed along with the others," I said, "as for my spiritual energy, I do not have a golden core anymore, that is why it is low."

"Why?" She asked.

"I gave it to someone else who needed it more," I answered, "I owed him and his family anyway, so giving up my cultivation for them was my last debt I paid off."

"No person's cultivation should be used as a debt," Baoshan said, "and core transfers are extremely dangerous and painful, how did you survive."

"I had a good healer," I said, "she and her brother were later burned to death just because the had the name Wen. I almost died after that though, my body is still recovering. I almost died a few times. Very recently was one of those times too."

"I want you to tell me everything that happened to you from beginning to end," she said and led me through the portal to a beautiful stone house. I knew that I was potentially safe here and no one could find me. I know I just walked away from Lan Zhan but it's better this way.
