Chapter Four: Fractured Truths
Takahashi Yumi POV:-
The Takahashi clan village was a masterpiece of hidden architecture, carved into the mountain range like a secret that had been kept for centuries. Torchlight flickered against ancient stone walls, casting shadows that danced with an almost sentient grace. The air was thick with incense and the weight of tradition, pressing down on me from all sides.
I'd been here for two days. Two days of suffocating expectations and unspoken demands.
My mother, Ichika Takahashi, sat across from me in the main hall. She was beautiful in the way that ancient things were beautiful-timeless, cold, and impossibly sharp. Her green eyes, identical to mine, studied me with the precision of a blade.
"Yumi," she began, her voice smooth as silk. "You know why I called you here."
I said nothing. I already knew where this conversation was heading.
"You are the heir to the Takahashi clan," she continued. "Our bloodline stretches back centuries. Our techniques are among the most powerful in the jujutsu world. But none of that matters if you don't produce an heir of your own."
"I'm twenty years old," I said flatly. "I have time."
"Time is a luxury we don't have." She leaned forward, her eyes narrowing. "I've arranged meetings with several suitable families. The Zenin clan has expressed interest. The Kamo clan as well. Either would be a beneficial alliance."
I felt my jaw tighten. "I'm not a bargaining chip."
"No, you're the future of this clan. There's a difference."
I wanted to argue. I wanted to scream. But I'd learned long ago that arguing with my mother was like fighting shadows-exhausting and ultimately pointless.
"I'm not ready," I said finally. "I have responsibilities at Jujutsu High. Students to teach. Missions to complete. I can't just abandon all of that."
My mother's expression hardened. "This is about that Gojo boy, isn't it?"
I froze. My heart stuttered in my chest, but I forced my face to remain neutral.
"I've heard the rumors," she continued, her voice dripping with disdain. "The way you look at him. The way he looks at you. It's unbecoming of a Takahashi heir. He's arrogant, reckless, and far too powerful for his own good. Being with him would be a disaster. A very bad choice."
"He's my colleague," I said, my voice cold. "Nothing more."
"Don't lie to me, Yumi." She rose from her seat, her presence suddenly towering. "I am your mother. I know you better than anyone. And I know that your feelings for him are clouding your judgment. You need to focus on your duty. Your legacy. Not some-"
"Enough."
The word left my mouth like a whip crack, sharp and final. I rose to my feet, my hands clenched at my sides, my green eyes blazing.
"You don't get to dictate my life," I said, my voice shaking with barely contained fury. "You don't get to choose who I love. Who I spend my time with. You've spent my entire life trying to mold me into the perfect heir, but I am not you. I will never be you."
