The next day arrived and she had a missed call from an unknown number. She called back around the afternoon. Since it was weekend she hadn't put on an alarm. 'Hello, who am I speaking with?' she waits for a response.
'Good afternoon Hyejin, it's me Mrs Anderson.' she said. 'Oh, hello! Can I help you with something?' she asked her. She could hear a man on the background very vaguely. 'Shhh!' she said sounding like she blocked her phone.
'Mrs Anderson? What do you need?' she asks again. 'Sorry sweetheart, I was meaning to ask you if you wanted to go for a drink somewhere. There is something I have to tell you.' Hyejin could still hear the man but ignored it. 'Sure, whenever you can will do.' she said to her. 'How about we see each other at the coffee shop down the street where you live in one hour?' she asks sounding like she's in a hurry. 'Sure..' the call ends immediately.
That's odd.
She drove on her motorcycle to the cafe on the agreed time. When she got inside there was no sign of her yet. She ordered a vanille latte and took a seat somewhere. After waiting for five more minutes she send her a text. Just before pressing send she heard a familiar voice. 'Sorry for being late.' Mrs Anderson said and she took a seat.
'I just wanted to text you.' Hyejin smiled. 'Sorry I had to go handle something before joining you. Someone will be joining us later in the conversation.' she said making Hyejin's smile fade away. 'Who? What is this all about?' Hyejin asked her.
'I wasn't sure when to tell you.' she started off. 'Especially when your mother's health got so bad and she needed me as therapist. It shouldn't have happened like this.' Hyejin frowned getting even more confused when she started talking about her mother.
'What is going on?' her voice sounded strict, straight to the point with no other emotion than demanding. 'Well me and your, stepdad. We had known each other before your mother needed a therapist. Before I met his family.' she explained. Just before she could continue explaining someone joined them. 'Am I on time?' her dad was standing at their table. 'Too early..'
She watched them look at each other. 'What the hell is going on here?!' Her voice shifted as her dad took a seat. 'Honey, I didn't know how to tell you but me and Mrs Anderson have been dating for 6 months.'
She grabbed her drink tightly and threw it in his face. 'How dare you cheat on mom!' she yelled. All the customers looked at them shocked by her outburst. The hot latte was dripping off of him.
'Is that why she got depressed? Did she find out?' She asked still shouting at them. 'Calm down.' Mrs Anderson said making her even more angry. 'Calm down? Calm down! You practically killed my mom!'
She threw the glass on the tableand stood up with force. The glass shattered into pieces. 'You caused her severe depression! It's your fault and you made me think it was because of me!' Hyejin started tearing up because of her anger.
'That's why you were no where to be found at the house after she passed! You were with her!' she shouted louder and louder. 'Did you even know that I had an operation! I had a heart filliar. But where were you?!' her tears escaped rolling down her face. 'Please hear us out.' her dad begged while wiping the coffee off his face and suit.
'You've said enough. I don't want to see you again, ever. I'll move out, today.' she rushed out the shop and started her motorcycle. When she got home she pulled two suitcases out of the closet. She ripped her clothes off the hooks.
She pushed everything inside of the suitcases. After she filled both of them she grabbed some other stuff she uses often and put them in her bagpack. She put the suitcases outside rushing in and out of the house each time she remembered something.
