Chapter 32 - Pinky Promise

You went to the hotel lobby to see Leah and a few other girls stood there, Leah looked at you and her face lit up, she made you feel better instantly.
"Hi"
She said in a high pitched voice
"You are the epitome of a golden retriever Le"
You replied giggling at her
"I am not"
"Sure"
You walked by Leahs side behind most of the squad, besides the likes of Kei, Luce and G. You felt your phone buzzing in your pocket and saw a call from your neurologist
"One sec guys I've just got to take this"
You answered the phone to hear the familiar voice of your neurologist, Emma
"Hi Emma what's up?"
You asked as you weren't expecting a phone call
"Hey sorry for the sudden call but I've got the results from your most recent assessment"
Your heart sank, you had an appointment around 6 weeks ago, just before camp
"Oh right"
"Honestly it's not the worst news ever it's actually quite good"
She seemed positive but you had become hopeless about anything making a single part of your health better
"Will it cure all my pain?"
"Unfortunately I can't do that Y/n you know full well that a lot of your conditions are chronic, but I do have a diagnosis of some form"
You sighed at the thought of another diagnosis to add to your list and for 'fans' to use against you
"Alright give it to me"
"Well there's no real name but I can confirm that your migraines are chronic and your spine, neck and brain scans have all come back normal besides the usual abnormalities"
"Oh great another thing without a cure, just what I need"
"Listen Y/n I know it's not great but it means it's not anything extremely serious"
"That's exactly what they told my mum 8 years ago! look at the state she was in when she died"
You could feel the anger rising in you but you tried to stay calm as the whole team were a few metres away from you
"I'll let you go Y/n but I'll call you if I find out any more info, take care!"
You didn't say anything but pressed the red button and held back the tears as you returned to Leahs side and took her hand
"You okay darling?"
She asked
"Yeah I'll explain when we're back at the hotel don't worry"
You reassured Leah taking notice of her grip on your hand tightening
"Child"
You heard Lucy shout from behind you
"Yeah?"
You replied not even looking back because you knew she was talking to you
"Turn around Georgia wants a picture"
"Fine"
You turned to look at the phone, oblivious to the fact you and Leah holding hands was very visible, and the fact that you could clearly see Lucy's arm around Keira's waist
"Can I post it to my story?"
G asked as she took the picture
"Yeah"
You all replied in unison, you noticed Esme was walking on her own so you excused yourself and caught up to the much taller blonde
"Hey Ezzy"
"Hi tiny what's up?"
Esme replied in her usual happy tone, you knew it was time to tell her you were leaving city, it just felt so wrong to say it
"Erm well i kinda- maybe, have something I need to tell you"
"Go on?"
She sounded confused at your sudden discomfort
"I don't really know how to say it but erm, after the euros I won't be coming back to city"
Esme stopped dead in her tracks
"Oh, right"
You heard her voice break and tears welled up in her eyes
"I'm so sorry Es, it's for the better"
"I know, I knew it was coming I just didn't want to believe it"
She sniffed holding back the tears that were filling her eyes
"You'll be okay Es, we'll be okay, I'll come and see yous all the time"
You reassured her while pulling her in for a hug
"Promise you'll keep me updated on how your doing?"
She asked
"Pinky promise"
You and Esme had made a vow that no pinky promise was to be broken no matter what years ago and you weren't about to break it any time soon
"What will I do without you?"
"You'll take your career to the next level and show people how amazing you really are"
You replied looking at your best friend, glossy eyed and smudged mascara
"Where are you going?"
"Arsenal, I've got to get away from Manchester, the thought of living in that house or going anywhere me and Gabs used to go makes me feel sick"
"I'll be telling Leah to look after you then, if she doesn't I'll be angry"
"I'll look after her Es don't you worry" You heard Leah say as she came from behind you wrapping her arm around your waist
"See I'll be fine, so will you"
"I guess so, it's just gonna be weird, I remember when we were teenagers and I'd go and watch you play, seeing you in red doesn't feel right"
"Yeah I get that but you'll keep the blue going for me okay?"
"Of course"
You pulled her into a hug
"And you get to spend all summer with me"
"How fun"
She replied
"Was that sarcasm I hear missis"
"Nooo"
You laughed and walked back over to the group
"Right everybody smile!"
G announced
"Mate we just took one"
You responded
"I want one with all of us though"
She pouted her bottom lip and tilted her head to make you feel bad
"Ugh your so annoying put your bottom lip away"
You shook your head and turned around, Leah instinctively grabbed your waist and placed her head on your shoulder, grinning widely, a view you had become acclimatised to
"You're so smiley"
She buried her head into the crook of your neck
"Shut up"
She said playfully
"Never smiley girl"
You giggled at the softer side of Leah you had all seen over the past few months, you felt really special
