Nikki's POV:
After the vote for Lucas's execution, I stepped off the stage and planned to go to the Juniper kingdom's castle, but Mrs. Windward stopped me. "Nikki," she said. "I need to talk to you. Come." I nodded, following the elder witch. Mrs. Windward led me on a path behind the Ice kingdom's castle, which led to a wooden cabin. "This is my home," she said as she unlocked the door with a key and let me inside. She pulled out a seat from under the table, motioning for me to come sit in it. "Well, all us royals and me of course know that you resurrected Lucas — that you're a witch too. Me and the royals also agreed to not tell the public that you resurrected him. Instead, we told them that when I summoned Alba the last time, the magic resurrected Lucas as the price to pay for it, which isn't true. When a witch summons a dragon, there is never a price to pay for it, unlike resurrection spells, which do have a price to pay if resurrecting more than three people."
She talked as she placed a glass tea cup in front of me, the top lined with purple. Mrs. Windward moved around in her kitchen, seeming to be making tea. "I've decided that I am going to give you Alba," she stated. "What? But why!" I exclaimed. Alba was one of Mrs. Windwards greatest friends. Why would she want to give him away? "Nikki, I'm an old lady." She laughed. "I won't be around for much longer now. Alba needs someone to take care of him and what if we need him in the future and I'm no longer around? Someone has to be there to summon him," she pointed out. She did have a good point. "But can't I just resurrect you when you die?" I asked. "Don't waste magic on things like that, Nikki. Don't worry, I'll teach you as much as I can before I pass. And who knows, when I do pass, that doesn't mean you'll never see me again."
"What do you mean?" I asked. "I can come to you in your dreams," she said. I got quiet. "So, I've also decided to give you a duplicate of the key to this cabin so you can access different spell books and such," she said as she turned around to grab a silver key off a desk, sliding it towards me. She turned around again, grabbing the tea pot as she poured the liquid into the tea cup in front of me. "Okay, fine. How will I summon Alba though?" I queried. "That's the trick," she answered. Mrs. Windward walked away, disappearing into a room before she came back around the corner holding a white candle with a blue flame in her hand. "Whenever you want to summon him, blow out the candle and he will come. When Alba leaves back to his land, you must re-light the candle before the day ends," the witch announced. "Or what?" I ask. "If you don't, you won't be able to light the candle again. There is no spell or lighter to re-light candles like these if you break the rule. This means that Alba won't be able to be summoned ever again, so don't break it," she said, handing over the candle.
