Introduction of Melinda

Melinda's parents had just separated and were going through a divorce. It was going to take six months for the divorce to go final and Melinda hated that so much she didn't want her parents to get a divorce. Top it off, the only person that understood was now in a nursing home. That one person was her grandmother Mary-Ann. She and Melinda were a lot alike. They both could see and talk to ghosts. It was a gift. Beth Gordon Melinda's mother never liked that her mother or her daughter could do that. She always hoped that Melinda would be a normal little girl but she wasn't normal. Melinda was always considered a freak. She really wasn't looking forward to school because she felt alone since her grandmother went into the home. Melinda's best friends Andrea and Delia knew her secret and never told a soul. That is what Melinda loved the most about them and that she had them growing up with them because they always had her back no matter what. When Mary Ann dies Melinda really feels alone. Wherever Melinda would visit Mary-Ann she would do her best to teach her granddaughter about being a ghost whisper, That was always something that Beth never loved at all. Beth kept telling her to stop. She was just a little girl. Melinda told her mom no I'm not I am a 16 years old mom. You have been doing this since I was a little girl. I can't do this on my own. I can't ignore them, just let her teach me. Beth told her fine but she was going to let Melinda go for her license because she wasn't going to listen to this at every visit. Melinda was happy about that. Melinda told Mary-Ann that day she will tell her when she got her license Mary-Ann smiled at her, Melinda studied day in and out every chance she got not just school but her hand book for her license. When it came to her test she couldn't wait. She had passed with flying colors. Her mom let her get in all of her hours and Melinda was taking her actual driving test within two weeks. Melinda was really happy when she found out that she passed with flying colors. Tom had gotten Melinda whatever vehicle she had wanted and she picked out a Jeep Liberty. He got it all inspected and everything and was paying the insurance on it. Beth wasn't happy that he did that and was fighting with him on it. They end up going their own way and Tom promised that he would still pay for her insurance as long as she promised to still get good grades. Melinda kept her promise to her father. She really wasn't looking forward to her senior year of high school because of the fact that her parents had just started the divorce process. Her grandmother just went to the nursing home. Melinda's math teacher Mr. Bouche was a real prick; he was always giving the students homework that was too hard. Somehow Melinda had managed to do it as well as her other homework. She was going to prove that she can do like she had promised her father that she would. One of the members of the people that they hang out with named Mandy was doing the vice principal Mr.Wakana even though he was married to a teacher there named Ms. Locke she never knew that her husband was having an affair at all. No one really knew about that at all. When harvest break came Melinda was a bit thrilled that she had gotten a break from homework every night from Mr. Bouche. Melinda spent most of it with her grandmother. The only person that she ever felt that understood her since they both could see and talk to the dead. The one thing that her parents couldn't do and that they always made a big deal about. Melinda knew that she couldn't just ignore it at all. Just like her grandmother knew that she couldn't either. She taught Melinda everything that she knew about how to be a ghost whisper and what to expect and what not to accept. Melinda told her grandmother that she had a boyfriend that she wanted to tell about her gift but she was scared to. Because everyone else that she tells because she has to when she helps a ghost crossover, thinks that she is crazy. And that she doesn't want him to think that at all about her. Mary Ann told Melinda that she had to take that chance and tell him. That if he really loves her, he will understand who she is and accept that. Melinda was happy about that and told her grandmother she will be back soon. Melinda went to see her boyfriend Kyle. She told him about what she could do and he made fun of her about it and she cried and told him that is not funny. That it is over because she thought she could trust him. Melinda went back to the nursing home to be comforted by her grandmother. Mary Ann told her that everything will be okay, that it just means that Kyle was not the one for her. That the one for her would accept her for her. Understand her gift and won't care and would love her anyways. Melinda smiled. She loved this about her grandmother. She was always looking out for Melinda and making her feel happy. Melinda had to go home and get some sleep for school. When she had gotten home from school and did all her homework . Including her math one that she hated so much. Because Mr. Bouche always gave way too much homework. The next day Melinda had gone to the nursing home and was told her grandmother was sleeping. She waited for her and when she came to get her Melinda hugged her. Mary Ann told her one thing else I never told you is this dear. Sometimes you feel what the ghost feels, like happiness, sadness or pain. Melinda told her that she feels that no. She realized it was her grandmother's ghost and she cried no no no please no. She ran into her grandmother's room and cried more. Called for the nurse and she told her I'm sorry she is gonna. At Mary Ann's funeral she couldn't find her grandmother anywhere. That made her more sad.
