Chapter Fourteen
"Did he mean to shoot me?"

Rafe seen blood on her stomach which made his heart drop, she made eye contact with him knowing he didn't mean it but looked away.

"Shit, shit, shit." Rafe mumbles walking back at forth. Meanwhile, Lily was sitting on the back of the truck putting as much pressure as she could. "Lily, are you alright?" JohnB yells as he pulls deep into the fields, Lily laughs thinking it's all just a dream. Sarah and JB get out the truck and look directly at her stomach, "Lily, oh my. Why are you laughing." Sarah says panicking, which made the blond girl realize it wasn't a dream.

She starts hyperventilating and seeing the blood made her think of when her dad used to hit JJ and her. JohnB takes off his bandanna around his neck and holds it onto her stomach, while Sarah tried to control her breathing. "I need to call Terrance." JB says grabbing a jacket and giving it to Sarah.

"Did you get the gold?" Terrance asks, "We got it." JB says looking at Lily sitting on top of it all, it was all mumbles of Terrance and Cleo cheering to the two girls. "We got a bigger problem, Lily's been shot. Twice. We're up in the cane field a mile up on the left hand side."

"We're on our way. We'll find you." Terrance says before hanging up, JohnB walks back over to the girls and sees Lily looking up at the sky, "Did he mean to shoot me?" she asks, "No, Lily. He meant to shoot JohnB." Sarah reassures her, but Lily didn't believe it.

Terrance arrives at the fields and parks behind the truck, Cleo runs out and helps Sarah and JB by carrying her legs to the car. "Lily, you going to be okay. Just breathe." the old man says shutting the door behind her, "We're gonna meet at the wharf in eight hours. No more. It is hot as hell out there." Terrance says looking at JB. The brown haired boy holds out a phone and makes sure the doctor is the right one.

They pull out of the fields and onto the dirt road, Lily tried her best to stay awake but all she could feel was her eyes slowly blinking. "What if they take the gold?" The blond girl says looking down at her hands, "Screw the gold. JJ would be kill me if he knew I let anything bad happen to you." JohnB says speeding.

The arrive outside a building at the two get off and run around the car to help Lily out. They both grab both ends of her arm, Sarah pushes a black box to ring the door repeatedly. "What do you want?" a man says from the speaker. "I'm looking for Dr. Nygard." JohnB says in panic, "He's not here."

"Do you know where we can find him?" Sarah asks, "Who are you?" The man asks, "Were a friend of Terrance's." JB says, "Look at the camera above to you left."

They all three look up and Lily gives a little dad wave, "All right, go through the bar. There's some stairs on the right." The man says looking at them from the cameras. They help Lily go through the door and up the stairs. "It's not her head is it? I don't do heads." the man asks from top of the stairs, making them shake their heads.

JB opens the door and puts her onto a wood table. "She's in worse condition than I am." The man jokes making Sarah glare at him, "Tell me what to do, Doc." JB asks stroking Lily's hair.

The blond girls vision got blurry at the second, but she tried her best to not shut her eyes. Dr. Nygard puts on gloves and looks at the blood gushing out, he puts a IV into her arm and puts pressure on her stomach making Lily scream at the pain. "What kind of doctor are you?" Sarah asks, "I'm not a doctor."

"Not in the eyes of the law, anyway. I'm more like a service provider." he says then continues to talk about the cure to arthritis, he stops talking a removes a napkin from her stomach and then grabs a knife. "You're going to sanitize that right?" JB asks and he nods putting it into a bowl.

"If I go into her stomach with this, she will lose more blood. It may kill her."

That sentence made Sarah and JohnB shake their heads, "No." they says in sync. "Or it may not kill her. Point is I can't be held liable for this either way." he says and JohnB nods, "Another thing, a job like this cost four K."

Sarah reaches into her pocket and pulls out the melted gold from a while back, "This is all we got." she says handing it out to him, the man takes it and it weighs his hand down a bit.

Lily closed her eyes at last not wanting to feel the knife. After many minutes he finished getting the bullets out and stitches her wounds closed. "What happened now?" Sarah asks pushing her hair back, "We wait, and hope she wakes up." Dr. Nygard says before taking a sip of his drink.

After about a hour of waiting Sarah touches Lily's neck to make sure she still has a pulse, "Doc, come here!" she yells from across the room. "Can you feel it?" he asks rushing into the room, "I feel it here but not on her wrist." she says holding Lily's hand. "Oh, shit." the man says taking off the fluid from her arm. Lily's eyes flicker slowly open and closed. "JohnB?" the blond girl says trying to get her words out, "Your okay." he nods.

"I can't feel anything." Lily says slowly turning her head towards him, "No, no, no, no, you're okay, it's okay." he says stroking her hair. The old man scrambles through things in another room, looking for something.

"If I don't make it-" "Jay-" she says closing her eyes one last time before the monitor flattens. "Do you know CPR?" the old man asks and they shake their head. "That's a sternum. Push on it till I tell you to stop." he continues before putting a mask on the girls mouth and nose.

They continue the process of pushing onto her upper stomach and squeezing air into her lungs, "Stop." he says before leaning down to see if she moves, checking if he could see her chest moves up from breathing. "What wrong?" Sarah asks panicking. He removes the monitor from her and walks into the other room, "Where are you going?" JohnB shouts, "She just lost too much blood kid. I'll leave yall with her." he says shutting the door.

Sarah grabs the mask and JohnB pushes onto her stomach, repeating the cycle over and over. They both began crying, trying to continue the cycle until they can't no more. "Come on! Wake up!" JohnB yells with tears in his eyes, "Lily, come on please wake up!" Sarah whispers to where they can only hear, she leans over on the table and bawls into her arms. While JB throws things that are into the room, until he grabs Sarah and hugs her.
