Chapter 14: Part 1

       After the trial , David would have nightmares about the night of the shooting and the face of the kingpin had made towards him. David was scared for his life and his family that one day the kingpin will get his crew to fire back again , because he had snitched. Kari Dee was still going strong , trying to raise her son and it was a challenge for her. How can you explain to your child their father isn't coming back? Oliver didn't go to the ceremony with them , So the last time he seen his father was the evening when he got dropped off to Melissa's house. In December of 1982 , Joicy hosted a Christmas party and it was a secret santa. They were all assigned someone and Joicy was assigned to Kari Dee. Joicy was able to make a photo book of pictures that included pictures of Kari Dee and Kevin and photos of them as a family. Once Kari got the book she started crying all over again , Joicy pulled her outside and said "I know you don't want to hear this , but God got you. I know it hurts trust me , but God will get you through this". Kari "How am I supposed to love a God that would take my child's father and my husband away? I do love God but this was a major lost. I really loved Kevin and he had started giving his life to Christ , he didn't deserve this". Joicy "I agree , he didnt deserve this , but think about the last words he told you. Your husband loved you and he was a man of God , his in heaven looking down on you. Don't be sad be joyful and when it's your time you'll join him in paradise". Then joicy and Kari dee hugged , although Kari Dee was stubborn she knew Kevin was in heaven and all she had to do was keep her relationship with God and one day she would see Kevin again.

     New Year's Eve was here , the family had a big celebration at Jerry and maxi's house and everyone was there. They celebrated the success of the community center and toast to a good year after all the bad that had happened. Sharleen and The Pastor Celebrated New Year's Eve together, but the pastor started feeling a disconnect from Sharleen as the months and days went by. The next day , January 1st , 1983 , Sharleen had to go out of town to check on one of her community centers that was two hours away and something told the pastor this would be good time to do some research on sharleen's history. He went through her personal things and found the address to Joicy's house and decided to call the number that was on there. Joicy was in her kitchen cooking some brunch for her husband and daughter , she then got a ring from her telephone and told Derrick to answer it.

Derrick said "Hello who is this?

The pastor: "oh hello , this is Joicy's step father , looking to speak to her is she there?

Derrick: "oh yes the pastor , yes she's here lemme give her the phone".

Derrick hands Joicy the phone.

Joicy: "well hello pastor how are you?"

The Pastor: "I'm good , I just had a couple questions I needed answers too. I tried not to look into it but I can't ignore it anymore".

Joicy: "I see your ready now. How about you come over I've cooked and it a lot left over , we can discuss it?".

The pastor: Okay , be there in 30".

      About 40 minutes later , the pastor came , Joicy and her family greeted him with a hug then Joicy fixed him up a plate that warm. Both of them sat at the dinner table alone while Derrick and mirah went to do their own thing.

        Joicy: "imma start off by saying this , my mother use to be a very sweet and smart woman. She fell in love with my father and once she seen he cheated on her ,
That turned her to witchcraft to begin with. After she did that two weeks later the women my father had the affair with killed herself , Soon after my father had pancreatic cancer, she made sure to try to keep him alive by putting her sons on the altar and eventually put me on a altar. I guess she didn't want to kill me , so she allowed my father to die by default. My grandmother told me she also was the cause of the death of my Mrs.Sena's deceased husband , Mr.Woodlock. She then had an affair with Mrs.Sena's new husband Mr.Vangoe until she got sick and he no longer wanted her. She knew about my brothers death and didn't bother to tell me that my brother put my daughter's name on an altar and she was barren. But thank God she ended up having two children. I don't know if it's true but my grandma also believed she put a hex on her before she died as well".
