The Moon

Leaning over the clouds
Trying to catch a glance of you
But you're not even looking for me
Because you're too distracted by the shine
Of the sun
But I understand why
Their touch, so warm
You lean into them
And when my touch lingers near you
You flinch away from the cold
Dark and frigid
Versus
Bright and stimulating
I face you, waiting for your attention
But the sun seizes it
Keeping your eyes on them
It is our way
Nature
And I shouldn't interrupt it
But is it fair to keep repeating the cycle
Of being alone
Unwanted
Disregarded
If the Earth had no sun
It too would be cold and dark
So I wait
So that maybe one day
I could feel the warmth around me
To have someone's eyes on me
And to know what it's like
To be

Loved
