Based on the night before the battle with the exorcist Angels
---

Husk stayed at the bar after everyone else had gone to bed, nursing off a bottle of whiskey. He took note of every sensation as he took a drink. The burn down his throat, the bitter flavor mixed with smokiness, as if he was breathing near a bonfire. He treasured every second the liquid stayed in his mouth, just in case it would be the last time.

He could die tomorrow.

He could die tomorrow, anyone could. Having been in war before, he knew the chances of no casualties would be slim to none. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't scared shitless, it was to be expected. There was so much he hadn't said yet.

He had grown to care for the people in the hotel. Gotten used to having them around, and considering them friends, even family. Sure, he hated the idea of the hotel at first, and he found everyone inside insufferable for the first few months. However, as time went by, he couldn't help but admit he cared about everyone.

Especially one of them.

He hated Angel the most at first, not being able to stand his fake flirty persona. He hated his boundaries being pushed and challenged. But, after he was able to crack Angel Dusts shell, and meet the real Angel, it was love at first sight.

Love, a weird feeling isn't it? Husk didn't think he could ever love again, claiming to have lost that ability many years ago. As much as he tried to deny it, the arachnid demon had found his way into the old drunks heart.

He could die tomorrow, and he never told Angel how he felt. As much as he wanted too, the fear of being rejected, or worse, fucking up whatever friendship they had created. He'd rather be in Angels life as a friend then not be in it at all.

But he had to say something, because he could die tomorrow.

It didn't matter, it was too late now. Everyone had long went to bed.

Husk was so lost in his own head, that he hadn't hear the sound of the stairs creaking.

"Husky? Youre still awake?"

He snapped out of his thought, looking up to meet Angels pink gaze.

"Could ask the same to you."

Angel smiled, sitting across from him.

"To nervous to sleep. What about you?"

Husk shrugged.

"Just wanted to drink a little more, just in case."

"Oh.. I see. Can I join ya?"

Angel asked with a smile, Husk just gestured to the seat.

"Do you want a drink?"

"Sure, surprise me, sweetheart~"

Husk rolled his eyes but it was lighthearted. He made a fairly fancy strawberry margarita, which brought a brighter smile to Angels face.

"You made this when we first became friends... or, close, I guess we were kinda... always friends."

"You remembered?"

"Course I did!"

Angel exclaimed, laughing softly.

"It... was genuinely one of the nicest things anyone had done for me."

Husk leaned on the bar, his hand nearly grazing Angels as making eye contact with him. He smiled softly, and Angel grinned back.

"Uhm, Angel..."

Husk mumbled. He had to say something, anything to keep this moment going. He wanted to spill his guts out, leaving out his bleeding heart for Angel to take, but he knew that would be the wrong move, and he was never good with words.

"Yeah, Husky?"

"I... just wanted to say that... if I don't... make it tomorrow, or if something happens that... I'm happy I met you."

Husk cringed out how awkward he sounded, like a nerdy teenage boy trying to ask out a cheerleader. He averted his eyes down to the pattern of the wood, embarrassed.

"I'm happy I met you too, Husk. Like... really happy. But..."

Angel gently intertwined their fingers, which caused Husks head to shoot up, his cheeks shining a bright pink as he met Angels face once again.

"...neither of us are gonna die tomorrow. I won't let it happen."

Angel was so bright and confident, countering Husks dread. He gently squeezed Angels hand.

"I hope that's the case... but I've seen war before and... casualties are almost always a factor. So... just in case of death I just... want you to know that... I... you are my favorite"

Husk felt his eyes get watery and attempted to blink away the tears that threatened to fall.

"You are my favorite too, Husky. I... really appreciate you. You showed me something... real. You make me feel... real."

Husk tried to keep his lip from quivering as he smiled, but Angel was quick to notice, jumping over the bar and bear-hugging Husk. Husk melted into the embrace, letting his figure be swallowed by Angels embrace.

"You're not going anywhere, and neither am I."

Angel whispered.

"Cause if one of us dies, we both die. I ain't living without my favorite grumpy bartender. But, in case we do, I guess I'll just have to love ya like it's our last chance."

Husk couldn't bear it anymore, and pulled away. He tugged Angels collar, pulling him down and smashing his lips onto the spiders. Angel gasped, but immediately kissed back. It was short and sweet, their lips parting only for a second. No words were spoken as they slowly kissed again, this time with more passion than the first. Angels arms wrapped around Husks neck, and Husk found his hands holding Angels waist. Their tongues danced inside each others mouth, challenging dominance.

Husk took control after that, and it didn't take long before clothes were strewn all around the bar, neither of them caring if someone came in. The lobby filled with quiet grunts and muffled moans. They ended cuddled up on the floor in a post-coital way, catching their breath.

"I love you, Angel."

Husk panted out, pressing a kiss to Angels temple. The tears he had been holding back finally falling as he gazed at Angel. Angel just cupped Husks cheek, feeling himself start to cry as well.

"I love you too. I have for a long time."

Husk sniffled, pecking his lips.

"Don't cry."

Husk whispered, tears falling from his eyes onto Angel. He kissed away the spiders tears.

"We're gonna be okay tomorrow..."

Angel muttered back shakily.

"Yeah. We're gonna be okay."

Composing themselves, they got up from the floor, cleaning up the mess as quickly as possible before going upstairs. They both entered Angels room, where Fat Nuggets slept belly-up on Angels bed. As soon as their bodies hit the bed, the wrapped eachother in a warm embrace, pushing their bodies as close as possible to each other. Fat Nuggets moved to lay against Angels back.

"I love you."

Husk whispered again, brushing his claws gently through Angels fur. Angel looked up, their noses pressing together. He nuzzled their faces.

"I love you too, sweetheart."
