As soon as we walk downstairs the part is already raging. Drinks are held in red cups and smoke fills the room. Tobacco and pot enter my nostrils and I want a drink. We go down to the coffee table by the fireplace and grab some. There we see Blaise with Crabbe and Goyle. I took my eyes, the two boys always annoyed me.

"Wasup, ladies." Blaise slurs as he throws his arms around mine and Pansie's shoulders.

Alcohol seeps from his poor and search for a familiar head of blonde hair. He appears from behind us with his white button-down halfway unbuttoned. Blaise whoops as he sees him and moves to throw himself into Draco. Draco's lips twitch as he sees us and welcomes Blaise's arm by returning the gesture.

"Wow, we need to get on their level," Mira says, eyeing Draco up and down like a sweet.

"Bottoms up," I say taking a bottle of Vodka from the table and chugging.

The liquid burns my throat and nose as I chug. The liquid warms my insides as I pass the bottle to Pansy. I turn my eyes back to Draco and he shares a cigarette with Blaise. The joint still in my system I decide to reach across the table and pluck it from his lips, taking a long draw myself.

The smoke in my lungs sends a shiver through my spine. Draco watches me carefully as I take another draw.

"No one likes a hog, Vera." Blaise whines. "Puff puff pass babes. It's practically law."

I continue to stare at Draco, his expression becoming one of anger. Suddenly he chuckles and saunters over to me leaving Blaise to stumble without his support.

"Give it back." He says, holding his fingers out.

"Make me," I say with a smirk, blowing the smoke in his face.

As he moves to take it from my hands I place it between his lips. Suddenly his cold hand clamps my throat, not squeezing hard, simply using his thumb to force my chin up. He plucked the cigarette from my lips and took a draw.

"That was hot," Blaise says.

"Alright enough you two." Pansy groans as Draco and I stare one another down. "This is a party. Let's not do this again."

She references our many previous fights during parties. Over the six years we have known one another we always seem to be at each other's throats or flirting to piss one another off. There is no in-between.

We spend the night separate from one another, purposefully ignoring the other. We dance and drink and Evelyn disappears to help Mira while she vomits.

Pansy and I dance at one another's backs, the alcohol making the room spin and keeping the thoughts of my responsibilities here away. Blaise pulls Pansy to dance with him and I dance on my own.

I sway my hips to the beat of the music, jumping up and down. I don't care that I'm dancing alone. Then a sharp pain echoes through my skull. I close my eyes and cradle my head in my hands. The pain lasts only a few moments.

I barely have time to recover before Pansy is at my side. She holds my arm and puts a hand on my back as she kneels beside me.

"Are you alright?" She asks, concerned.

"Ya, just feeling a little sick," I say.

"Come on let's go to the loo." She says.

"No, I'm- I'm fine," I say, standing and finding Draco with his arms crossed over his chest staring at me. "I think I'm just going to go to bed for the night."

"Come on Vee it's the first part of the year, you can't-"

"There will be others." I interrupt her.

"All right then." She says. "Care if I stay?"
