A meeting is called and all the death eaters gather at the table, with one person missing. Snape. He has been dealing with his new position as headmaster at Hogwarts.
We are seated at the long dining table, exactly the same seating arrangements as the previous dinners/meetings, me on my father's left and Draco's family on his right a few seats down.
With a flourish of my father's arm, a woman floats between the pillars at the end of the table. I watch her carefully then I reckognise her. Professor Burborage. She teaches muggle studies at Hogwarts. I get the feeling that will no longer be her profession after today. The a door closes and I crane my neck the opposite way to see Snape.
"Severus, I was beginning to worry you had lost your way." My father says. "Come. We've saved you a seat."
Snape sits beside me and I eye him cautiously as I pin my shoulders to the chair behind me, concealing professor Burburage from my eyeline.
"You bring news I trust." My father says to Snape.
"It will happen Saturday next at nightfall." Snape references Harry Potters moving from his muggke dwelling to a safe house.
"I heard differently my lord." Another death eater counters. "Salish the Auror has let slip that the Potter boy will not be moved untill the thirtieth of this month. The day before he turns seventeen."
"This is a false trail." Snape argues. "The Auror office no longer plays any part in the protection of Harry Potter. Those closest to him believe we have infiltrated the ministry."
"Well they got that right, haven't they?" A death eater down the table chuckles and the rest of them laugh as a high ranking minister sits opposite of my father.
"What say you, Pius?" My father asks the minister.
"One hears many things, my lord." The minister says carefully. "Whether the truth is among them is not clear."
"Spoken like a true politician." My father chuckles. "You will, I think, prove most useful, Pius."
I watch as my fathers stare bored into the minters head like a beam. Suddenly something nudges my foot. The snake I have grown up with Nagini slithers up the leg of my chair. She drapes her monstrous body over the back of my chair and rests her head on my shoulder.
"Where will he be taken, the boy?" My father asks Snape.
"Tk a safe house. Most likely the home of someone in the order." Snake reveals. "I'm told it has been given every manor of protection possible. Once there it will be impractical to attack him."
"My lord," Bellatrix calls for attention by clearing her throat. "I would like to voukenteer myself for this task. I want to kill the boy."
Professor Burborage groans and I tense as my father yells.
"Wormtail! Have I not spoken to you about keeping our guest quiet?" He barks.
"Yes m-my lord." The pudgy man stutters. "Right away, my lord."
"As inspiring as I find your bloodlust Bellatrix, I must be the one to kill Harry Potter." My father says calmly, Bellatrix shrinking in her seat like a kicked puppy. "But, I face an unfortunate complication. That my wand and Potter's share the same core. They are in some ways twins. We can wound but not fatally harm one another." My father stands. "If I am to kill him,I must do it with another's wand." He begins walking along the rob of chairs infront of me. "Come, surely one of you would like the honor. What about you, Lucius?"
I watch as Draco tenses as my father stands between him and his father. Martinis head nudges my neck as I watch them carefully.
"My lord?" Lucius croaks out.
"My lord?" My father mimics him before holding his hand out. "I require your wand."
With shaky hands, Luchus takes his wand from his walking cane and hesitantly hands it to my father.
"Do I detect Elm?" My father asks as he studies the wand.
"Yes my lord." Lucius answers quietly and flinches when my father snaps the silver snake head from the wand.
"And the core?" My father presses.
"Dragon," Lucius clears his throat. "Dragon heartstring my lord."
My father throws the wands snake head onto the table before gesturing the wand to Ms Burborage. She groans as she is moved to the center of the table. My hands clench in my lap as an agony slithers closer to the table, her younger flicking tentacles as her head now hovers above my lap.
"To those of you who do not know, we are joined tonight by Miss Charity Burborage who untill recently taught at Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. Her speciality was muggle studies." The death eaters laugh. "It is Miss Burborage's belief that muggles are not so different from us. She would given her way, have us mate with them." Bellatrix makes a gagging sound. "To her, the mixture of magical and muggle blood is not an abomination but something to be encouraged."
"Severus." Professor Burborage gasps as she turn her head to Snape beside me. "Severus please. We're friends."
My eyes flick to Snapes unchanging expression before my father casts the killing curse. The professor falls atop the table and my heart jumps in my chest.
"Nagini," my father croons to the snake as she makes her way atop the table. "Dinner."
I force my eyes away as the snake I have grown beside engulfs the woman whole. My chest rises and falls faster than normal untill my gaze is met by my father's. I force myself to sit up straighter and meet his gaze with one of forced confidence and strength. He nods simply before dismissing us.
