Charlotte had never felt so peaceful in a long while as she sat across the breakfast counter. She watched in a comfortable silence as Mia made pancakes for them. She found herself walking over to Mia wrapping her arms around her waist. She pressed her face up against her back and breathed in her scent. Mia made Charlotte feel so safe. No one, not even her ex husband, ever brought her that security.
Mia was smiling as she poured a special pancake just for her sweetheart. She could get used to this feeling and wanted it to never end. "Sweetheart, do you mind grabbing me a plate?"
Charlotte did as she was asked and as she handed the plate over, their fingers brushed against each other. Time froze for a moment. Neither Mia nor Charlotte wanted to break the contact, but Mia did finally to not burn the pancakes.
By the time that breakfast was ready to eat, they had about an hour until they'd have to start getting ready for work. Mia was waiting to see if Char would bring up the night before or if she'd have to be the one to ask.
"Char, I hope you like your special pancake." This causes her to notice it was in the shape of a heart. A huge smile spread across her face.
"It's almost as special as you are."
"Come here, sweet girl." Mia beckoned her to come sit closer to her but before she could sit, she pulled Char onto her lap. Carefully cradling her face, Mia peppers kisses all over her face. "Charlotte, I know my next question might make you a bit uncomfortable so only answer what you want to."
A pause.
Mia swallows her nervousness, "What happened? What drove you to get wasted and pass out on the sidewalk next to your car? Not to mention, the car full of your belongings."
It was quiet. Char was trying to pull herself together to answer and Mia knew this was hard so she gently rubbed her back to let her process.
"When we separated, the agreement was that I could stay in the house with our children because he was going to be out of town often for his new job. I came home from work and was completely locked out. The key didn't work anymore and the garage code was changed. He came out the front door and began to tell me he had found someone and he would be taking the house back. In his words, "Since I'm not good enough to be in a relationship with anyone that he deserves our home and that our children deserve a better mother." Tears fell down her face as she continued on, "He threw almost all of my things at me and before I could even try to get a word in, the door was slammed in my face. I had nowhere to go and I was too afraid to call anyone."
She took a breath, trying to calm herself down a bit. Mia was silent and that scared her. Charlotte wondered if Mia was judging her and if she agreed with him. Well that was until Mia finally spoke up.
"Charlotte, I will call Marjorie for you and let her know you'll not be in today. Family emergency being dealt with." She got up quickly and got her keys. "You are welcome to come with me, but you have to be strong sweetheart."
Charlotte's stomach dropped and she followed after Mia,"Where are we going?"
"I'm going to set him straight. No one is going to treat you like that. Not without any consequences. You are beautiful as the sun and your heart is as pure as they come, Char. You deserve to be treated with respect and so much love. " Mia pauses as she leads them to the car. "He is going to respect you. He doesn't have a choice."
Charlotte was a little nervous trying to figure out what she might have meant by that. She was too afraid to ask any questions though. The ride to her home, well now it was just a house, was eerily quiet. She could tell there was so much going on in Mia's mind.
Her ex husbands car was still in the driveway and she could see that the bus had already picked up her daughters for school. Whew. I really didn't want them to watch their father be emasculated.
"Sweetheart? Are you coming in with me or staying here? I know you are afraid but I promise I will be okay."
"I-I think I want to stay inside the car." Charlotte stuttered out and with that, she watches Mia get out of the car and get up to the front door. Charlotte put her head in her hands and began to weep. She wasn't sure what was going to happen. Her life was falling apart at the seams and it felt like she had no one.
Well. Except for Mia.
Her thoughts were interrupted when she could see her ex being dragged out of the house by the back of his neck. He was obviously embarrassed and held something in his hands. Mia walked him all the way to the car and opened up Charlotte's car door, "I believe there is something you'd like to say."
With shaking hands, he handed over the keys to the house (all of the copies), "Charlotte I am very sorry for calling you a terrible mother, throwing you out of our home and disrespecting you. " he pauses and Mia stared coldly into his eyes. "I understand that if anything like this happens again that Mia will find me and finishing the throttling she began inside. "
"Thank you Nick. I will never forgive you though. You are truly the smallest man that ever lived and I hope you know no woman will ever truly be satisfied with you because you are selfish in many ways. " Charlotte found her backbone finally. Mia wanted to kiss her because holy shit was that hot to watch her tell him off.
"Nick thank you for apologizing to Charlotte. Now I know this may be hard to e believe but let me just tell you something. She is mine and I never want you to even think badly about my Angel again. Do you understand me now?"
He nodded quick knowing he better answer before Mia practically castrates him outside in the driveway. "Now get off our property. Goodbye." Mia felt such a rush from calling Char hers and claiming her but felt a bit sad knowing it wasn't completely true.
Mia climbed back into the car and Jusr sat in the driver seat a moment, "Charlotte I'm sorry for-"
But as she began to speak, she was cut off by Charlotte."Mia. Shut up and kiss me. Please."
Who was Mia to deny her?
