The Announcement

Mia could see how anxious Charlotte was as she watched her frantically setting the table. Today was the day they were having friends over to share their news of Charlotte's pregnancy. There was something else special they had to announce as well, they hadn't even shared with the girls yet.

"Baby, why don't you go relax?" Mia's voice had pulled Charlotte from her panicked state,"You don't need to get so stressed. They're our friends, sweetheart."

Charlotte slowed down for a moment, she looked over to Mia. "I know I shouldn't worry but I'm just so excited and want this to be perfect."

Mia made her way over to her sweetheart, wrapping her arms around her,"If it has to do with you, it's already perfect." She stroked her cheek before bringing her in for a gentle kiss. "Go sit down, I'll set up dinner and you can greet everyone as they come in."

Charlotte opened her mouth to argue but decided against it when she saw the look in Mia's eyes. She knew Mia was right and that she should rest, but all she wanted was to continue to perfect each detail. This moment was something she wanted to relive over and over. They were not only going to get to tell her best friend she was having a baby but get to announce the baby's name.

The name was something Mia and Charlotte had been discussing since they found out the gender. Mia was unsure of how to bring up her idea or to work in to fit with their other children's names. But she wanted one and one thing only and that was to honor someone she loved so much. Charlotte loved the idea and happily agreed because she knew how much it meant to her wife.

Charlotte jumped up at the first knock on the door and couldn't contain her excitement. Everyone had arrived at once and filed in: Autumn, Winter, Reece and Marjorie. Autumn handed a bottle of wine off to Char.

"Hello Charlotte, any way you could get me a glass?"

"Yes of course!" She smiled, walked off to the kitchen and returned with a glass. "Does anyone else need a glass?"

Marjorie laughed,"I'd like one! And get one for yourself too."

Mia brought out two glasses to the living room and poured Marjorie and herself one too.

"Charlotte, care to say why you're not going to drink."

Charlotte's face tinged pink as she felt happiness washing over her,"As you may have noticed-" She took off her jumper and showed off her baby bump that was hiding beneath.

"I've been a little off lately and putting on some weight but it's not because of stress. It's because we are going to have a sweet baby boy!"

Marjorie's jaw dropped open as she looked to Reece excitedly,"Oh my goodness!"

Autumn shared a knowing smile with Winter and Mia watched her heavensent Charlotte ramble on.

"We know that it's custom to give your children a set of godparents, but we spent many nights going back and forth on who we wanted to ask. I've always known since I was a little girl how I wanted to raise our babies and I can't imagine it without you, Reece and Aut."

Reece and Autumn looked between each other and back to Mia.

"I would love for all four of you guys to be this sweet boy's Godparents."

Reece was the first to speak,"That would be the biggest honor. Are you still okay with raising our kids as siblings?"

Mia nodded and was shocked by his sudden embrace. Autumn had tears in her eyes and just continued to nod along as her answer. She wasn't one to show a lot of emotions. Marjorie was crying and hugging Charlotte.

"I have something else special to share." Mia spoke, her voice trembling as she felt overwhelmed by emotion suddenly. She pulled back from her hug with Reece.

"No one has been more influential on my life than you and when we found out we were having a little boy, all I could think was our youth. I always wanted a boy and you wanted a girl and they would be best friends like us. I hated when we were at each other's throats because that was my one dream that had survived. I'm so glad we are where we are now and that I'm at the point where I'm asking you to be my baby's godfather." She had tears streaming down her cheeks, "Our baby boy is going to be named after you. His name is Alexander Reece Roberts and he will forever know how important you have been in our lives."

Reece wasn't one to cry, but he felt his lip begin to quiver and he broke down in his hands. Marjorie's eyes widened as she had never seen him melt down before. Autumn stepped in and pulled his hands from his face before wiping the tears from his cheeks and stepping away again.

After a few moments, he cleared his throat and was able to speak,"That is the greatest honor I've ever had in my whole life. I promise to protect him always and keep him all harm."

Marjorie was emotional watching the interaction,"does anyone else feel like this baby will be the safest baby ever? Because it has the guard dog and the piranha to protect it?"

Laughter and many tears filled the home that night and Charlotte could feel her heart fluttering. In the midst of the childhood memories and the fighting because of uno, she could feel something else fluttering too.

How sweet it was that Alexander moved for the first time in the presence of those who loved him most?
