At Last|| Mialotte

Welcome Back!

Today was Charlotte's first day back to work and she was so excited. She had been out of work for a little over two months now because Mia was worried she wasn't ready. She had made Char a special breakfast and watched as Charlotte for the first time in a long while eat her whole plate. The last few months had been such a depressing time for the whole family except for Ellie. She didn't really understand what had happened and they didn't want to ruin her image of her dad anyways.
All four of the girls ate breakfast together and grabbed their things for school, before heading out the door. They dropped Elaina off first, then Renee, and finally they pulled up to the nursery. Mia could feel the happiness radiating off of Charlotte and it made her smile. "Are you excited to come back to work, sweetheart?"
"Oh man I'm so excited!" She threw her arms around Mia and gave her a kiss,"Care to escort me in for my 2nd 1st day?"
"Of course, Char." Mia let go of her and walked around to hold open her door. She loved Charlotte with all of her heart and she was happy she was happy again. She walked her into the building and stopped by the office to greet everyone,"Good morning Marjorie, morning Autumn."
After everything had happened the last few months, there was so much healing that went on for Marj,Aut, Reece and Mia. So many hard conversations were had as they took turns caring for Charlotte so that Mia could rest a bit.
"Good morning Mia! Oh my! Did you bring my love back to work today?" Marjorie smiled, she had missed having Charlotte at the nursery with her dearly.
Charlotte popped around the corner to surprise them,"I'm back!!" While Autumn was not as affectionate at the others she did crack a smile at the gesture.
"Charlotte. Glad to have you back." Autumn speaks before going back to her work. Mia walks Charlotte down to the toddler room. Everyone had agreed that Char wouldn't be working in the preschool for a long time. It would be too much for her to work through.
"Goodbye Sweetheart, call me at your lunch so I can come and eat with you okay?" She kisses Char goodbye before stopping in the office again. "Marjorie, I need to talk with Charlotte's best friend. I would talk with Carly but I'm not sure she could keep a secret."
Hm.. this made Marjorie curious, "Go on, I'm listening."
"Do you think Charlotte would-" But before she can finish, Carly bursts through the door. "I can keep a secret! What is it?"
Mia rolls her eyes and laughs a bit. She then realized she had to think quick on her feet for something not as serious as the question she was going to ask. "Do you think Charlotte would like if the girls and I surprised her for lunch?"
Carly stood there mouth open,"DUH! What kind of question is that? Man I thought you were way smarter than me but guess not."
Marjorie raises her brow as she comes to the conclusion that was not what Mia was wanting opinions on. She shoos Carly off and as her and Mia begin to chat.
The kids were so happy to see Charlotte was back and she loved all of the hugs and cuddles from them. As much as she tried to live in the moment, she could tell some of the parents were judging her as they did hand over. One in particular was Summer, who couldn't stop just staring her down, even though she had dropped off her child several minutes ago.
"You know, Charlotte, a good wife would work things out." She sneered as she checked out her own wedding ring. Charlotte winced but chose to move on with a smile,"You know, I don't need to have this conversation with you."
"Whatever. You know it's true. That man didn't want you anymore because you were useless to him. Seen his new piece yet? I'm not even sure she's out of college."
She felt herself clenching her fists,"No I haven't but I'm sure she is beautiful. Hopefully he will be kind to her. More kind than he was to me."
Summer scoffs and rolls her eyes,"Shut up, Charlotte. We all know he treated you like a queen but you became a **** and ran him off."
Anger flashes in her eyes and she tries to walk away. She didn't want to continue this conversation. She guesses she should be glad the story had been kept under wraps for the most part.
"What? Cat caught your tongue? You're too embarrassed to admit that you lost a good man."
Marjorie and Mia could overhear someone getting quite loud in the school and went to check it out. They waited a moment outside the toddler room door to try and see what must've been happening.
"Charlotte, I'm starting to understand why he would bea-" Summer was pulled out of the room by Mia by her hair before she could finish her sentence.
Marjorie wonders for a moment if she should stop her or not but decides to check on Charlotte. She had a faraway look in her eye as she tended to the children and changed a few nappies. She felt stuck in that moment. She knew Summer wasn't a nice person but no idea she was an abuser sympathizer.
"Charlotte I can't believe she spoke to you like that. Don't worry, we will unenroll her child this evening. "
"No. No it's okay. He shouldn't suffer because of his horrible mother. He needs a good role model somewhere." Charlotte looked up at the ceiling trying to keep the tears from spilling. She took 3 deep breaths and was trying to self soothe.
"Are you alright, Sweetheart?" She looks up and finds immediate relief when she sees Mia. She hugs her and sighs,"Much better once you saved me."
"Anything for my pretty princess." Mia laughs a bit and kisses her,"Alright Charlotte, I've got to go to work so as long as you are okay. I'll see you later at lunch, okay?"
She pouts and uses her puppy dog eyes,"I'll see you later.. I love you so much. Please be safe."

The day felt like it went on forever. She was so happy to see Winter, Carly and Sorscha again. She had really missed them and they missed her too. It was all they could do to not spend hours just talking with her. Charlotte was ready to go home and was waiting for Summer to pick her son.
"Hello Summer. Ethan has had a lovely day. " She was doing her best to stay tolerant but this time Summer looked nervous.
"Hi Charlotte. I'm really glad to hear he's had a good day. Listen about earlier, I'm very sorry for how I spoke to you. You didn't deserve that treatment…"
Charlotte was getting ready to respond when Summer began again,"But you ought to thank the surgeon who fixed your face, he really did you a favor."
Her eyes widened at the comment and she was about to stand up for herself when Mia appeared out of nowhere. "Summer." She warned, her eyes were heady with something.
Summer quickly apologized and moved on, but Mia grabbed her before she could leave,"Charlotte has always been the most beautiful girl in the whole world. Must be why you feel the need to tear her down. No matter how low she would stoop, she'd always be miles above you."

Authors Note- It's been so rainy and storming all day long at our honeymoon so I've been nonstop writing all day. Promise this is the last one of the day
