I've been avoiding Alicia the entire day. I took the long way to class, to not pass by her office. Yesterday, she sent me a lot of texts asking if I'm okay and if I reached home safe. I did reply, I'm not going to ignore her that much. But I know if I meet her face to face, she'll ask me too many questions. Questions, that I can't provide the answer of. If I answer one, I'll have to tell her everything. I'm not going to do that. I can handle myself. I've been handling myself for months. I don't want her pity.
The bell rang signalling the end of my second last lecture. Now I have... English.
Why God? Why are you doing this to me?What if I just... skip this time. "Hey I'm going to go home, I don't really feel that good." I inform Kiara and Lara.
Kiara raises her eyebrows at me and mouths, "What happened?"
I shake my head and pack my things when Lara speaks, "Wait. I'll go too. I'm bored here. We can go to your place and play Nintendo."
"Okay. Quick."
Kiara groans getting her bag up and says, "Okay I'm coming as well then."
"Looks like we're going to party!" Lara yell whispers excited as we get out of our seats.
"Who's going to party, Miss Hansen?" Noo...why! Why does she have to arrive now?!
"Shit." Lara mutters under her breath. Shit, indeed.
"Where are you three going?" Alicia asks.
"Bathroom."
"Home."
"Out."
Hearing our different answers, she raises her eyebrows and says. "Sit back down."
"Can I go back? I'm not really feeling well." I explain.
"What do you feel like, Miss Rao?" She asks in her teacher voice, placing her bag and coffee on the table. She crosses her arm as she looks in my eyes. I'm sweating. Don't look at me like that.
"Umm... nauseous?" I finally answer.
"Are you asking me that?" She chuckles. This is really embarassing. With a wave of her hand, she turns her back to me and says, "Sit back down."
"Why did you leave early yesterday?" Kiara whispers.
"It's nothing."
"Today, I want you all to write about your support system. Be it your friends, family, neighbours, I don't care. Write atleast five lines." Alicia turns her attention to the boy sitting behind me. "And Philip, I don't want you sketching dicks on the side. If you want some, go to a gay bar or something. Don't scribble on the paper."
I've never laughed so hard in my entire life. Everyone laughed as he just sat there ashamed. I love it when he's so embarassed. When his ego is challenged. Especially when it's Alicia poking him.
Her voice echoes through the class as she asks. "Am I clear?"
"Yes, miss." Philip replies.
"Don't just stare at me now. Get on with it." She says sitting back down on her seat.
My support system.
I have my kaka (uncle) and kaku (aunt) who I live with. Who've always cared for me. Even when we lived in India together, they showered me with all the love, like I'm their own daughter.
My friends, Lara, Kiara who're always there to cheer me up and have fun with. Even if they're idiots, I love them dearly.
I have my baba, who has guided me through everything and has been my biggest mentor. I wouldn't trade the knowledge and love he has given me for anything.
And I have my family back in India.
