The week passed by quickly. Tomorrow would be the weekend when kaka and kaku will return. Kiara's still staying with me, she'll probably go away tomorrow. She hasn't yet told me the reason why she's here but I haven't pushed her either. My mind feels too occupied on baba.
I still don't believe Reema, no I don't. She has to be lying. We just saw him, not even a month ago. He looked fine, happy even. He told us so many stories and even explained how Hindu weddings work to Alicia. He looked so happy sharing everything.
"Can't sleep again?" I hear Kiara ask from behind me.
I hold Ronan tighter and turn around to face her, getting my blanket closer to me and shake my head.
"You should talk to her, you're always so cheerful around her."
"No, I don't want to burden her."
"You won't and if she feels that way, then fuck her. You deserve better."
"She's not like that... It's just... I fear she'll look at me different, she'll feel as if I'm some broken person that needs to be fixed. I don't want her to think that."
"Hmm... You said you were in love... Why did she say all those things then?"
"What?"
"About you pushing people away..."
"Oh. That. I don't know why... Maybe because she is grieving too, she loved baba as well." I say. I won't tell Kiara that I try to avoid my parents because of the arrangement. I can't tell her everything.
"You are lying. But it's fine..."
"I'm sorry."
"It's fine. I understand." She says and then turns over and says, "Try to sleep, Maya."
I sigh turning my own back to her and close my eyes. Haven't I suffered enough? Why must all the happiness be taken away from me?
ლ
"What time are they coming?" Kiara asks, putting a stop to my pacing.
"I'm not sure. They said, they'll come today morning." I say going to sit besides her on the couch.
"It's seven am. Relax. You haven't even slept yesterday."
"I don't feel like sleeping." I say.
"You need to rest your brain from all those thoughts."
"I can't do-" I speak and hear the door bell ring.
I look at Kiara and she straightens up, fluffing the pillow besides her. She nods and I go to the door to open it.
Kaku sees me and smiles, handing me her bag which I keep on the kitchen counter.
"Kiara, have you told your mom you're here?" Kaka asks her.
"Yeah, she knows." I hear faintly say as I come back towards the living area.
"Where were you?" I ask.
All three of them turn their attention to me and kaka says, "We told you... we were on a roadtrip."
"I know but what all places did you visit?"
Kaka looks at kaku for a split second and says, "You know, here and there."
I hum and say, "Show me the photos."
"We forgot to click them." Kaku says, avoiding my eyes.
"Okay, then atleast tell me what all you did? You usually talk so much, kaku."
She looks at me and says, "Why are you speaking like that?"
"Why are you lying to me?"
Kaku looks back at kaka and he, her. "What are you talking about?" He says.
