Alicia's pov:
I've been looking forward to tonight all day. Today's our second dat- hangout. We're going to the same arcade again. She loved it yesterday, I did too. We played almost every game and talked for hours. I've noticed she loves to do the fun things, more than the fancy ones. We have that in common. I'd choose a fast food place over a fancy restaurant anytime.
She kissed me on the cheek when I dropped her to her uncle aunt's. It made me feel all giddy inside. I felt like a teenager getting her first kiss. I mean, she is my student still, but I can't change these things! It is what it is. She makes me feel giddy and have butterflies in my stomach when I see her. I don't want to deny it.
Speaking of students, I read some of the essays today. Reading Maya's, gave me an impression that her family back in India isn't all that innocent, she didn't write a single good thing about them. Just wrote that she has them in her life, nothing else. I don't want to push her too much. I don't want her to feel like I'm prying, I'm not. I just want to know her. More than that though, I want her to feel comfortable when she's sharing things with me. I'm not going to ask, even if I badly want to know. I'd wait for as long as she wants.
I see her standing in front of the door with her phone in one hand, the other hugging her body. Why doesn't she ever wear a jacket? She's wearing a teal corset top with spaghetti straps and jeans. Even if she looks extremely pretty, I'd rather see her not shivering.
"Hey, beautiful." I say walking up to her when she sees me from the distance.
"Hi! You look radiant as always." Maya compliments locking her hand in mine.
I untwine them and say, "Wait here a second." I go back to my car and get the jacket I bought. She was the same yesterday. So, I bought one, just in case. She looks at me confused when I run back with the cloth. But her stance visibly becomes less tense when I put it over her shoulders. "See? It's better, isn't it?"
"It is." Maya says smiling. "Thank you." I hold her hand in mine again and lead us to the door.
"After you," I say and she grins going in as I follow. "What do you want to do first?"
"Can we eat something? The kids worn me out today."
"It's okay. We'll have food then." We go towards the same table we sat on yesterday. No one really sits here because it's in a dim corner. It's quite convenient. Even though there are slim chances anyone we recognise will visit here, this secluded area provides a little bit more safety. "How was work?"
"Same old. I love the kids but sometimes they can be a lot."
I nod in understanding and ask, "How many are there?"
"Around twenty I'd say."
"Ugh nightmare." A lot of kids equals a lot of mess.
Maya laughs and questions, "You don't like kids. You don't like teens. Why did you become a teacher then?"
"I never planned to be a teacher. I just love literature. That's what my major was. After I graduated, my mom got me a job here. She was also a teacher. I don't hate teaching, I quiet enjoy it now. But I never planned on it. It just happened."
She nods and says, "Well I think you're an amazing teacher."
"You don't have to say that. I know everyone hates me."
Her hand finds mine and she intertwines our fingers saying, "I don't hate you. I love your teaching. You make us understand everything. I can see you're genuinely passionate about the subject."
"Thank you, angel but-" I cut my sentence short when I see her kiss my knuckles. Why is that simple act making my heart race?
"Hmm?"
