"Do you want to go to the beach after school?" Maya asks plopping down on the chair opposite to mine.

"Sure. But don't you have work?"

"I mean after work." I hum and open my lunch box. Seeing me open it, she opens hers as well.

"What are you doing?" I ask.

"Having a snack with you."

"If anyone sees, they're going to think something else." Do I care? No. But I can't risk her career. It's too risky here in class.

"School's over. Plus can't a teacher eat with her favourite student?"

I let out a laugh and ask, "Favourite student? What gave you that impression?"

"Am I not?" She questions, furrowing her eyebrows. I can't even lie so I change the subject.

"What about your friends, wouldn't they be waiting for you?" Maya shrugs bringing the spoon with rice to her mouth.

"Taste?" She asks and without even hearing my answer, brings the spoon in front of me to feed me. I nod and hum in approval at the burst of flavours. "Here, I bought an extra spoon for you."

Why do you have to be such a sweetheart?

I feed her the pasta I made. It only seems fair. And ask, "Did something happen with them?"

"Mm this is really good. Did you make it?" I nod and she continues, "You're an amazing cook. And to answer your question... Kindoff? They think I don't share things with them. But they- I mean Kiara. Even she doesn't share much about her. I don't know about her family. She never invites us to her house, not even on her birthday. Why does she expect me to tell her everything when she doesn't herself?"

"Hmm. She looks like a good person though."

Maya sighs. "She is."

"Are you hiding something that could be worrying her or just general things?"

I watch her bite her cheek before replying, "It could maybe worry her. But it shouldn't really. I'm past it."

"Can I know what's it about?"

Maya shakes her head and breathes out, "No. Not yet. I'm sorry."

"That's okay. Don't apologise. I'm here, whenever you want to talk." I wonder why she always apologises. Even if she does something that's completely normal, something that doesn't need an apology, she says a sorry.

The door to my office opens and Andrea hurries in turning her back to possibly lock the door. Does she not notice there are two people here? I see Maya roll her eyes and I let out a chuckle.

Andrea speaks up still with her back to us. "Finally, I made you laugh again... How do you lock this!?" Frustrated, Andrea turns back around. She halts for a moment and looks between me and Maya. "Miss Rao, what are you doing here?"

"Having lunch, duh."

"Detention." Andrea orders. Me and Maya look up at her in an instant.

"W-what?" Maya asks with a slight fright in her voice.

"I don't think that's necessary, Andrea." I speak up. Why would she give Maya detention when she just spoke to her. The tone wasn't even that bitchy, she was just being playful.

"You can't talk back to your teachers."

"Yes- right. I'm really sorry but please don't give me detention. I have to go to work and my parents-"

"You should've thought of that before opening your mouth."

"I-I'm really sorry, please miss."

Andrea smirks to herself saying, "Save all that. You're having detention today."
