Nova was the only one who knew.
For the past few weeks, I've been feeling incredibly nauseous. The smallest bite of food sent me straight to the toilet, vomiting my guts out. I thought I had a stomach bug.
The vomiting got worse. I couldn't even think of food without making my stomach churn.
Nova noticed this strange behavior and asked me, "Are you okay?"
I glared up at her after I threw up. "Oh yeah, I'm perfectly fine, as you can see."
"I just want to know," she said. "I'm worried about you."
Her big blue eyes stopped me from getting angrier. I hauled myself up using the countertop. "Other than vomiting every minute, I'm fine," I assured her.
"Do you think you have a stomach bug?"
"Actually, yes."
She nodded. "Okay, let's take your temperature. Come with me."
I followed her out of the bathroom and into a small closet, where she rummaged around until she brought out something. "Here. Put it in your mouth."
I stuck the thermometer in. We both waited for a bit, then it let out a small beep.
She took out of my mouth and frowned. "98.6. Normal." She looked up at me. "Have you taken a test?"
"What kind?"
"You know... the pregnancy kind."
I crossed my arms. "Why would I be pregnant?"
She started to count on her fingers. "Well, let's see. You've hung out with him a lot. You've also done the deed quite a bit, without protection. You also don't have any STDs. Do you want me to elaborate further?"
"No, you've said enough." I looked around the closet. "Do you have any?"
She snorted. "Of course. If the case ever rose, I went to buy some one time."
"Next thing you're gonna tell me you have are feminine stuff," I grumbled.
She winced. "I'd rather not say. Now go and test yourself."
She gave me a small cup with a lid. I went back to the bathroom and unscrewed the lid.
I breathed in deeply. "Here goes nothing."
After peeing in the cup, I dipped the tip of the test into it. I hoped that it would take a while for the results to show, but at the same time I kind of didn't.
I inhaled and exhaled, closed my eyes, and crossed my fingers on one hand. I took out the test with the other hand and slowly opened my eyes. The digital screen showed two lines: pregnant.
I didn't know how to react. I was only a teenager; how could I get pregnant?
Then I remembered that, just like Riley, I'm chronologically long into adulthood. If it wasn't for the no age thing on the island, I would be around five-thousand-years old.
Nova knocked on the door. "What are the results?"
Before answering her, I dumped the pee into the toilet and flushed it. I opened the door and showed it to her.
Her eyes widened. "You're pregnant?"
"Seems like it." I felt my hands shaking. How would he react to this?
"What are you going to do now?"
"I... I don't know. Tell him, maybe."
"Won't he tell the rest?"
