I stomped up to Jhaufyther one morning.
He was still laying in his bed, and gave me a withering look when he heard me coming.
"What do you want?"
"We need to talk."
"Lhrioun, I was sleeping."
I stepped closer to him. "I swear, if you don't get up I'll MAKE you."
He rolled his eyes but followed me until we were outside the camp.
"Why didn't you tell me you were leaving?"
"This again?"
"Yes, this again. You told Clauchice but not me."
"Of course I told her first." He flicked his tail. "The way you reacted last night was the exact reason I didn't tell you sooner."
"How did you expect me to react?"
"I don't know, maybe a little calmer?"
"Didn't Clauchice fight you as well?"
"Yes, but she calmed down after that." He glared at me. "You, on the other hand..."
"None of this is my fault," I growled.
"You literally caused us to be scolded by our father in front of the entire assembly! Like we were khits!"
"I don't like the thought of you leaving," I admitted.
"You made that very clear last night." He sighed and sat down.
"Have you talked to Carlos?"
He frowned at me. "About what?"
"Marissa."
He shook his head. "I don't need to talk to him to know that both of them are doing well."
He's always been so mysterious, I thought. You eventually get used to it, though.
I also noticed that he was bigger than me now. I was pleased about that- it sucked being the largest one out of my siblings.
I remembered Riley telling me one time about the different breeds of domestic cats and pointing out that it was possible for Jhaufyther to be a cross between a Norwegian Forest cat and a Maine Coon.
Why am I telling you this? To be honest, I've always wanted to know what breed of cat we would be if we were regular domestic cats.
Apparently, I'm a Bengal. Without the rosettes to prove it, I make it up with my friendly personality- except when I'm angry.
Clauchice is a Ragdoll, which makes sense because she's cute in a fluffy sort of way, especially during winter.
The last Catwing that was interesting to me was Haphmoun. She has really short legs, but can still run as fast as all of us. She's a Munchkin: a really cute cat breed with incredibly short legs. It makes total sense, although the fact that Haphmoun can sprint really well is beyond me.
"Do you remember the time when you showed Haphmoun how to fish?"
He smiled. "Of course. She was only a khit, really, but I enjoyed teaching her."
I can remember it vividly. It was a summer day-hotter than usual-so we decided to take a swim.
I'm pretty sure this was already told in the first book my friends wrote, but I felt like adding to it.
First of all, we were on the ground before going into the water. We were trying to find a place in the shade, but the ground was too hot so we headed for the lake.
On our way there, Haphmoun bounded up to Jhaufyther. "What are you guys doing?"
"We're going to the lake," he replied.
"Cool! Can I come?"
He exchanged a glance with me, then looked at her again. "I don't see why not."
Flicklitte, her twin brother, rolled his eyes but walked beside her.
At this time, Jhaufyther was bigger than everyone except me. Keep this in mind because it'll be really important later.
The same events from the first book unfolded. Haphmoun caught her fish, we all congratulated her; she beamed at Jhaufyther, and he smiled back.
However, on our way back, Clauchice saw a squirrel and naturally chased after it.
The squirrel escaped, chattering at her before scampering away. She tried to slip out from between the branches, but her fur caught on the twigs.
She struggled. "Are you okay?"
Clauchice glared down at me. "Do I look like I'm okay? I'm stuck!"
Jhaufyther let out an amused purr. "The tree sure caught you in its woody claws."
"It's not funny! Get me out before I pull my fur off."
"Hang on, shouldn't we enjoy this first?"
"LHRIOUN!"
"Fine."
I crouched down as Jhaufyther climbed onto my back and hooked his claws onto the branches.
Using his size, he sliced off the topmost branches and managed to pull Clauchice free. Some of her fur stayed on the ends, but otherwise she was okay.
"Thank you," she breathed.
"Next time, don't go wandering into gaps you can't fit through."
"I won't."
Haphmoun looked up at him with shining eyes. "That was cool!"
Jhaufyther smiled at her. "Anything to free my sister."
"I think she had a crush on you then," I said.
"Really?" He tilted his head. "I don't know, I kind of thought she just had that khit happiness or something."
"We should visit Claugrouw."
He nodded. "That sounds like a great idea."
The trip was pretty short, so we walked over there.
He looked up when he heard us coming. "Are you two on good terms?"
"I would think so," Jhaufyther said.
"That's good to hear. Sorry I scolded you in front of everyone."
"No, we deserved it," I admitted. "You kind of made me realize how arrogant I am."
Jhaufyther cracked a smile. "About time," he teased.
I smacked him with my wing. "Okay, Mr. Cockiness."
"Do you want to go hunting with me?"
"Sure." Jhaufyther raised his wings. "It'll be nice to hang out with you," I added.
We took off and landed in the forest. The hunting was pretty successful, and we worked together to trap all the animals we got.
Hefting our prey back home, I dropped my catch near my den and collapsed onto my bed.
"Tired?"
I rolled over to face my brother. "I'm starting to feel my age."
"I experienced that long before you did." He sat down next to me. "We should really do some pranks on someone."
"Clauchice?"
"Nah. We've done too many on her, and she'll suspect it before it happens."
A glimmer of a white tabby Catwing appeared in my mind. "I think I know who," I said.
He smirked mischievously. "I do too. Let's do this."
