Prerna's POV
"Open the door." I woke up with a loud banging on my door. My eyes squinted at the unpleasant sound but I got up nonetheless.
I opened the door only to find Mom standing there with fresh bruises on her face, neck and hands. The bruises on her body reminded me of her helplessness to live with an cruel man like her husband.
"You are sleeping too much nowadays." She stated and I tsked in my mind.
Sleeping too much? I get to sleep for only six hours and my rest of the day belongs to work. Whether it is office work or house chores.
Apparently, my parents don't trust anyone so we did not appoint any househelp for anything except for cleaning. Rest of the work is done by me.
"Your father is going to wake up soon. Go make breakfast." She ordered and marched to the garden.
I went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth and washed my face before going to the kitchen.
I checked the menu for today which was decided by Dad. Today's breakfast will be Besan Cheela. I washed my hands and proceeded to work.
After half an hour, I saw my parents settling on the table. I served them first and sat down to eat as well.
I was so hungry that it did not take me much time to finish the Cheela, also the food was good. So I forwarded my hand take one more but Mom stopped me.
"Don't eat too much of these." She said. "You are becoming fat day by day." She gestured at my face.
Oh please. It was not fat, it was puffiness that I get after waking up. And this happens daily but she still taunts me like it was something new.
"Yeah right." Dad agreed, "First get married then be fat or thin or dead. We don't care."
Of course he didn't care. I knew it since forever.
I scoffed under my breathe and picked up an apple. I wasn't hungry after hearing to their nagging.
"I talked to Darshan Bedi yesternight," my hand froze mid way hearing Dad, "and talked about what Prerna did."
The man I stood up on last evening was Darshan Bedi's son, Ashish Bedi.
"Is he upset?" Mom inquired.
"He was disappointed by her actions," Dad gave me a pointed look, "but I told him her health wasn't the best yesterday so she couldn't make it to the date."
"And he believed you?"
"He did. And he said that he has got all the information about Prerna," My insides twisted. I could feel something bad was about to happen. "He wants to fix the engagement date."
My breath hitched and brain took it's time to process the words. Engagement? Is this what he said? I kept looking at Dad's face in disbelief and he just gave a wicked smile.
Anger and hurt blinded my vision and I banged my fist on the table with amusing force.
"NO!" I stood up. My voice came out rough. "YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME."
The hell I would marry that Ashish-fucking-Bedi or any man of my parents' choice. My interest in marriage was zero but my interest in marrying to his choice was in minus.
God knows what kind of man Ashish was? His father was a politician. They must be deep in corruption and illegalities. I have met enough politicians to know that.
Greed has made my parents' brain as good as hell. They were ready to do literally anything to fulfill their selfish motives. They have always used me for that in one way or another but I won't let this happen again.
