An out of place man in an out of place crowd

Carlisle and I walked into the fundraiser which I was told was full of vampires and was for blood banks. I'd laughed when he said that. But it did make sense in a way. He is a doctor even if he didn't drink human blood he could still get behind funding blood banks.

The fundraiser was held in a hall that was full of red decorations. I looked around at the place and vampires stopped to look at me. Everyone was conversing quietly, not seeming to mind that everyone could hear them. Carlisle stood out even without his stunning looks and great presence. The way he moved was freer than the rest of the people here.

I took a deep breath and looked at Carlisle, "Do you mind if I take all the attention from you?" Carlisle laughed.

"I think you already did baby," He murmured. I laughed, "Come on baby release your wings."

"How'd you know?" I asked.

"I think I can guess pretty well what you're thinking based on what you do," he murmured, "And your dress is already backless. I smiled and released my wings. Everyone in a thirteenth foot radius jumped as I released them.

"Jesus," I heard about twenty people say in unison. Carlisle laughed and placed an arm around my waist just low enough so his arm didn't rest on my wings.

"People are staring," I murmured.

"That means they can't look away," He replied with a kiss to my forehead.

"Carlisle my friend!" An Italian accent exclaimed. I looked over the man it came from. He wasn't short but he wasn't tall. He had long black hair and was dressed in black. He looked at me with curiosity.

"Lucifer Angelini," I introduced myself. His face went blank for a beat before he came back to the present.

"Aro Volturi," He said. I grimaced at the name. I fucking hated this man.

"Aro how nice to see you," Carlisle said with a forced smile.

"My brothers and I were just wondering how you met the beautiful Lucifer here," He asked.

I laughed, "I came home with his children and commented on his art."

Carlisle laughed, "I guess that is how we met."

"How wonderful," Aro said, "I hope we get to talk later tonight more."

I hope we don't. I thought as I blocked his power from myself and all of the Cullens. I don't want him to know everything they've thought.

As Aro walked past he brushed his hand against my bare arm and looked up at me when he didn't see anything. I growled at him and he kept walking.

Carlisle and I went to go sit with the Denali coven. They greeted him like a brother rather than an old friend. I smiled and we sat down. "Carlisle have you heard?" Asked Kate, who I learned is the eldest.

Carlisle's eyebrows furrowed like they always did when he was confused. "Heard what exactly?" He asked.

"A group of nomads are heading our way. They've been around here so they could either go south and go your way or north and end up at our place," Kate replied. Carlisle glanced at me with worry in his eyes.

"Hopefully they go east or west," Carmen said trying to lighten the mood.

"Hopefully," Carlisle said as he looked at his drink. A waiter came around with a drink for me since I don't drink blood. I took it from him with a smile.

"Thank you," I said and he nodded. I wrapped my right wing around Carlisle when he spaced out. He looked at me with a smile. "What?"

"You care about me," he said with a grin.

I rolled my eyes, "Of course I do."

Carmen laughed, "You've broken the devil Carlisle."

I shook my head and took a sip of my drink. "He has not," I insisted.

"I think I have," Carlisle said as a man sat next to me. I moved closer to Carlisle and he looked over my shoulder. "Can we help you?" He asked.

"You can't but she can," the guy said and I moved even closer to Carlisle. I turned my head to see a blonde man with red eyes. I already didn't like him but the fact that he had the audacity to sit next to me when I'm obviously with Carlisle just made me hate him even more.

"Well get on with it," I said and he grinned.

"You're not very patient are you?" I growled, "Whatever. How much can I pay you for those wings?"

My anger intensified, "Fuck you."

"Whoa it was just a simple question," He said, putting his hands up defensively. "I don't even know your name and you're cussing me out."

"If you even knew a fraction of who I am you'd die," I replied through my teeth.

"What are those wings the key to Hell or something?" He asked and the entire table bursted out into laughter. The women put a hand over their mouths while Carlisle and Eleazar just kept on laughing.

"You have no idea," I said as I laughed. The guy huffed and walked away. I turned my head to Carlisle and he laughed and kissed me.

Everyone at the table excused themselves which left him and I alone. The rest of the fundraiser was watching us but playing it off like they weren't.

"How much longer do we have to be here?" I asked.

"We can leave right now if you want," Carlisle murmured. "But I do have to warn you, people do see me as the fourth king. The Volturi likes to say I'm on field duty," I laughed.

"Mmmm," I hummed as I moved my hands up his chest. He looked at me with a warning look.

"Baby," he started. I looked up at him through my eyelashes. "Oh my fucking god."

"Not god, devil," I murmured. I got up and slang my bag over my shoulder, "Can we go get food?"

"What do you want?" He asked and I shrugged. He laughed and got up. I placed a hand on his bicep and we walked toward the exit. I waved to the Denalis and closed my wings into my back.

"Carlisle?" I said as we walked towards the car.

"Yeah?" He asked and I turned my head to him.

"I love you," I said.
