Aunty Mary apologized to me for what transpired today. I told her it was okay, and I was fine. I wanted to break the ice and change the gloomy atmosphere. I asked them if they wanted a delicious breakfast giving them a warm big smile.

"Well, he cooked," I said hastily, I pointed at Carl "and we ate, Aunt Mary," I added. They both smiled in resignation.

I'll make coffee, I thought and hurriedly went to the kitchen.

I had planned to buy new sneakers today but I changed my mind.

"I'm planning to go to an amusement park, would you like to come with both of you?" I asked while drinking aromatic coffee.

"I'm old, I don't have the energy unlike before," Aunt answered. "You both go ahead."

As we boarded the train bound for the amusement park, the hustle and bustle of the crowded platform engulfed us. Carl held my hand and guided me to an empty seat.

As a pregnant woman boarded the train, her tired eyes scanning the crowded carriage for a place to sit, Carl stepped forward without hesitation. With a polite smile, he offered her his seat, choosing instead to stand in the crowded aisle.

I watched in admiration as Carl's selfless act showed before me. In a world where kindness was often in short supply, his gesture was a relief in this harsh environment.

The pregnant woman, visibly touched by Carl's thoughtfulness, gratefully accepted his offer, sinking into the seat with a sigh of relief. As Carl stood before me, his posture tall and proud, I couldn't help but feel a surge of admiration for the man in front of me.

In that moment, something shifted within me. A flutter of excitement stirred in my chest, my heart beating faster as I realized the depth of Carl's character. It was a small gesture, but it spoke volumes about the kind of person he was.

As the train rattled on towards our destination, I found myself drawn to Carl in a way I hadn't anticipated. His actions had touched something deep within me, igniting a spark of attraction that I couldn't ignore.

As we stepped off the train and into the bustling chaos of the amusement park, I knew that this day would be one to remember – not just for the thrills and excitement of the rides, but for the unexpected twist that had brought me closer to the man standing beside me.

This is absurd! behave! There I was, scolding my heart like a stern teacher reprimanding a misbehaving student. How could you be so confused, I chide myself in disbelief.

My heart! don't you dare develop feelings for someone who was as unattainable as a unicorn. Well, you're his wife now. What's the problem? This phrase crossed my mind. I even surprised myself with this idea. I looked at the crowded station to cut myself with that thought.

As we stood for our turn to the turnstile to enter the amusement park, Carl confided in me that he had never set foot in an amusement park, I couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for him. Growing up with what I considered to be a normal childhood – complete with loving parents and carefree days spent at places like amusement parks – I realized just how fortunate I had been.

Being in this old place filled me with nostalgia, transporting me back to a time when the world seemed simpler and more innocent.

But for Carl, the amusement park was nothing more than a structure.

As hours passed by, we found ourselves immersed in the wonders of the amusement park, each moment filled with laughter and excitement. From the heights of the roller coasters to the whimsical delights of the carnival games, there was never a dull moment to be had.

We laughed and our voices rang out like bells in the afternoon air, playing with all these silly games.

As we walked through the exit of the park, taking in the sights and sounds of the bustling crowds, I couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the moments we were sharing together.

At home, I offered to make dinner for both of us. I knew Aunty Mary would be at the senior community center to release her stress from what happened this morning. She will be saved from my suggested fiasco.

I told Carl to be forgiving If I ever cook something hideous. He readily agreed, waiting for a kitchen performance.

However, my grand plans quickly went up in smoke – literally. As I attempted to multitask between chopping vegetables and keeping an eye on the stove, disaster struck. The meal that I was preparing on the stove ended up burnt to a crisp, the smoke alarm blaring its disapproval as I frantically waved a dish towel in a futile attempt to clear the air.

Defeated and embarrassed by my culinary catastrophe, I sheepishly suggested ordering pizza instead. To my surprise Carl laughed at the top of his lungs, his chuckling is putting me at ease. As we sat amidst the wreckage of my failed dinner attempt, we found ourselves bonding over our shared love for cheesy toppings and greasy goodness.

I'm satisfied with the day even if it was a disaster at the end. He forgot his heartache for a moment and laughed away his pain.
