The winter came back again.
Kevin started to wear his favorite black hoodie again. Much time passed since he fell into the woods.
He was at home in his office, working.
Today he had therapy, like he had been doing for 3 months by the time. Adelaide messed him up, maybe.
But no, he haven't told Doctor Sanchez about her, no. They would have thought he was insane and locked him in a blank room. In a blank shirt.
He told her about his mom, though. Ada could easily just had been an invention of his mimd, as he concluded. Thanks to the introspection time he got before apologising to his mother.
A way he could be friends with Carlo and Cole.
Easily, easily.
The probabilities of Ada being nothing but a projection of his fears were high.
The probabilities of Ada being real were low.
But never zero.
Never zero, because he remebered Carlo saw her too.
And that's when he stopped working.
---- Why haven't I thought about before!!?
He shoud have said something to his therapist about it...or...not.
He can say something to the guy who saw it too. Mame more sense, to him.
--- He's a great friend of mine, ins't he? Like, we've been talking for months. Hanging out. Me, Cole, his girl, Hannah. We're great fellas.
He got his phone and sent Carlo a message:
''Hey, are you free today?"
--- I should have said Morning at least..
He replied almost right away:
"Hey, wassup?"
"You free today?"
"Kinda"
"Wdym?"
"Wanna hangout?"
He took a deep breath before replying:
"Yeah. Could you go to my place, talk about some stuff...perhaps?"
"Now I'm worried. You never use perhaps"
"Don't be. Just...come here, maybe."
"Omw"
---Did I sound too desperate?
He asked himself, sadly.
Kev changed his t-shirt and put on a black jeans. The hair was unruly, so he gave up on combing it.
That's when he heard the doorbell ringing.
---Just a sec!
He got downstairs and opened the door.
Carlo was standing there, using a heavy jacket and cargo pants.
--- Hey, man.
---Hey.
Carlo greteed him and side-hugged him. Then, he said:
--- I was going to bring Cole but he went out with her girl today so...and this kinda looked important.
--- Yeah, alright. Have a sit, I'm gonna go grab some beers for us.
--- Sure you will.
When Kev came back, Carlo was sat in the couch, with a really bad posture, as always.
--- Ur spine's gonna curl permantly some day.
--- I know, I'm trying to become a shrimp.
---On purpose?
--- Absolutely.
--- Cheers.
They both took a sip in their beers.
--- So, what's the matter, Kev? Is it about your new hairstyle?
Kev tried to fix it running his hands through the strands.
--- Hair? Oh no, no. Well I, that's not a...neither the matter and-
--- Hey, don't stutter. It's not bad, really.
Silence. A cough.
A raspid saying:
--- Thanks. But the matter is a bit more serious than that.
--- I know, you looked worried. I just tried to help.
--- Thanks again. I..just don't know where to start.
--- A key word, maybe?
Kev thought carefully before saying:
--- Adelaide.
--- Hum.
--- Remember her?
--- Your ex?
--- Nah, we had nothing.
--- The one that left you before you got into therapy and the new job and stuff, right?
--- Yeah, she left me, indeed and... Promise me something?
Carlo suddlenly looked dead serious:
--- What is it?
--- Do you...think I'm insane? I mean, will you-
--- The best people are, Kev-
--- No, I mean. Promess to don't call me crazy? I know you a bit too well.
--- You think I'm not gonna believe you, is that right?
--- Yeah.
--- Then try me.
--- What?
Carlo got a soft smile in his face.
---- Say it. What you wanna say. Let's see if you're as crazy as you think.
Kev took another deep breath and started speaking:
