"Yeah, but, how? And, where did you find it?" Evan Rosier had been all but interrogating the girl the moment he was able to get near her. Fortunately for him, he had been able to sit beside her at Charms, where he was currently pestering her about the spell she had used on the Squibs and Late-boomers. Since it had appeared on the news, his father had come to learn about her actions before the break had ended. As a result, Mr Rosier had demanded for his son to get as close as he could to Sandy, as well as figure out how she had gained access to this spell. Being a Death Eater, Mr Rosier kept looking for things to improve their cause, and, of course, impress the Dark Lord himself with his family's success. Voldemort had actually began speaking about the girl in his meetings, insisting to the parents among the Death Eaters to urge their children at Hogwarts to find out more information on about her. Mulciber, Avery, and Rabastan Lestrange were all in the case. Despite the four being friends, this was a race; who could gain favouritism from him sooner. "I mean, it's a genius spell. No more fear of having a child turn out to be a Squib!"
Sandy shrugged, not quite trusting his intentions. Throughout her conversations that year with Rosier, she had been a little apprehensive on installing her policy of 'he hasn't done anything yet', much like she had with Peter, Barty, Regulus, Severus, and Petunia. However, there were things here and there he'd say that just put her off. "Does it matter?"
"Yes. I mean, what if there are other spells-"
"Alright..." No, she wasn't going to let others know of her spell book or anything else from her secret family vault. Not even about the vault itself. "Not that it's any of your business, but, I'll tell you, so long as you let me focus on the lesson. If you must know, dear Rosier, it was inside a passed down family relic. I... I accidentally broke the darn thing, okay? And... there it was; a ripped up, piece of parchment in Latin, detailing the purpose of the spell and how to cast it. I'm not even sure if my parents knew it was in there. Or my grandparents, and so on. Although, if they did, they never told me."
"Old family relic?" He was fishing for more details. There was no way he would simply send his father a letter with such little information.
She figured, the best was to continue with the lie was to stumble over her words, and articulating everything she spoke. "A clock. Like ummm, what do you call it? The- the table clocks, with the- with the unnecessary wood on the sides, to decorate it. I'm not sure what they're called. It's in the tip of my tongue."
"Like, a tambour martel clock?"
"Yes! I- I think? Yes."
"And you broke it, and it was inside."
"Please don't tease me. I don't have many things left of my parents. They're probably so disappointed at me from the grave for breaking something that's been... Who knows how long in the family."
"Tambour martel clocks aren't that old. They're from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, I think? It probably only has been in your family for three or four generations." Evan enunciated out loud, as he silently pondered on her ancestors, and any other relics she may have around.
She knew that. But, she was going to pretend that wasn't the case. Play him like a fiddle. "Shit, really? Well, it looked old. Are you sure?"
"Positive." He nodded, feeling proud that he was 'educating her' on something. Although, it was more so that he was glad that what he had been forced to know about the Rosier Manor was finally proving to be useful. Even if it was something small. "We have a few at home. When I was a kid I had to learn when and where every piece of furniture and book had come from. It was to understand our wealth, as well as why we're friends with certain families, since some are gifts, and such. It's a big house."
