The confrontation by the Slytherins had lead to a physical altercation, one which resulted in a number of individuals ending up (back) in the infirmary. Sandy, namely, had disappeared after this event, opting to hide in the Room of Requirement (those location she had yet to reveal to her friends).
The five Marauders (as Regulus, or 'Leo', had been acknowledged as a new member after completing his first Animagus transformation), had decided upon having a meeting about the situation in the Gryffindor dorm. "So, we call all agree that she came to Hogwarts to take shelter under Dumbledore's protection, yeah?" Regulus questioned, after they had gone over some of her suspicious behaviour.
"But," Remus began, as he pondered over the girl. He had yet to confront her about her possible lycanthropy (after her admission of having been present when a werewolf transformed, seeing the scar on her ankle, and connecting that with her knowledge on the condition, as well as brewing capabilities on the Wolfsbane Potion), and was keeping his thoughts on the matter to himself. "If she is here under a pseudonym, a false identity, then why would Dumbledore not shield her from the spotlight of that spell that unlocks the magic in Squibs and Late Bloomers, as well as the whole Basilisk and Chamber of Secrets ordeal? Wouldn't that put her secret identity in danger of exposure?"
"Perhaps he is simply just stupid." The youngest Black blurted candidly, making the others gape at him. "What? Can you suggest an alternatively? He's old enough that he can be considered to be near-senile."
Peter shrugged. "I mean... Leo's got a point."
"That is if Sandy- or whatever her name is- is actually not who she says she is. There could be another explanation having contemplated yet."
"Such as?"
"I don't know, Prongs. I'm just saying our deduction isn't absolute. We have to keep in mind the possibility that we're wrong or not completely correct on our assumptions, if we want to get to the truth."
Beside them, Sirius silently traced the rune on his wrist. The very same spell Sandy had casted on him (and Regulus) right before they could leave to Grimmauld, one last time. "She's admitted to me of spells she'd name to protect herself." He glanced at Regulus, gesturing with his eyes to his brother's wrist, making the Slytherin soundlessly nod in understanding. "And we know that there's plenty of people she cares about, whom have died. Likely witnessed it once or twice, for her to have those nightmares and panic attacks..."
"Sandy told me last year that she didn't want to come here. That it was against her will. But that she knows she had to come here, for both her safety and others'," Remus too recalled slowly a conversation with her, relevant to the situation. "And when I asked her if Dumbledore had been her godfather all her life, or once since arriving here, to protect her from whatever happened back in Australia... Well, she said that no matter how much she wanted to answer that, she couldn't. That she wasn't allowed to answer that."
James made wild gestures in front of his body with wide eyes. "Okay, this is getting sketchy as fuck. Just how deep in is she?"
"For her to become the impromptu goddaughter of 'the greatest wizard' of our time?" Peter questioned with a hypothetical intonation and a raised eyebrow. "I think we can conclude it's got to be really bad."
