AEMILIO

"Slap some cash on it, and it's sold," Benito said as he puffed his cigarette.

I leaned against the table that separated us, tapping it lightly. "Language," I said.

He shifted anxiously as his companion, Rocco, slapped him on the back while laughing awkwardly. Rocco looked at me with a sly grin as though we were buddies or something close to that.

"Benito is only saying that we could make a lot of money with these drugs. The youths go wild for things like this, and ours is as pure as they come. You would get the worth of your money," Rocco said softly.

I sighed. "Where is the line?"

Rocco moved quickly to the other side of the table. I watched as he took out one of the wraps that contained the drugs. I sighed as I turned to Bruno, who had his hand on one of the guns in his pocket in case things went off.

I knew it was unnecessary, though. These idiots were eager to make sales and wouldn't try anything risky. I signaled for him to relax as I flicked my wrists before turning over to the men who were sliding the line of drugs to me. I took the tasting metal and calmly lowered my head to it while taking a sniff.

Sparks flew to my head immediately, and I felt like I was sliding into cloud nine. It was so pure and perfect. Ugh! The whites in my eyes slowly cleared, and I could see Evangelina running towards me with a smile.

"So, what do you think?" Benito asked.

I smiled. "It's beautiful."

They grinned and launched into more talks regarding the sales. I couldn't focus on what they were saying. All I could see was Evangelina grinning and throwing flowers at me. She was so fucking beautiful.

What the fuck was wrong with me?

She shouldn't affect me this way. I had just brought her for Erico and no one else. But she still had a way of coming into my consciousness like a butterfly. She suddenly kissed me in my mind's eyes, and I reached forward.

"Is there something wrong, boss?" Rocco asked in a shaky voice.

I blinked as I looked down at the hand I had used to hold him down. Damn it! I pulled back at once as I rose to my feet.

"Bruno would handle anything else. The drug is good, but I have to be somewhere right now," I mumbled.

Without waiting for a response, I shoved Bruno to the closest seat and quickly made my way out of there. It was not the first time that I was leaving him to handle the whole issue alone. He would do a good job.

Outside, I grabbed the car keys from the valet and slid into the driver's seat. My hand kept missing the critical hole, but somehow, I could fit it in. I drove as fast as I could out of the office to my own home.

The traffic was minimal, and it took all I had not to hit the cars in front of me in my haste.

"Calm down," I muttered to myself.

I itched my hair lightly as I slowly pulled into the house's parking lot. One of the guards came around to me at once and helped me out of the car.

"Has anyone..." I bit back the question.

"We didn't know you would be coming this early, sir. I would have told the maid to make some tea for you and biscuits," the guard said politely.

I waved him off. "I don't need that. Park the car in order," I grumbled.

He bowed, and I walked away from him. Gosh! I couldn't believe that I almost asked him about Evangelina! Maybe it was simply because I had made her become Erico's guardian. It was nothing more. I was trying to make sure that everything was in order. That was all.

I took a deep breath as I stepped into the sitting area. The whole house was bustling with activity, but I couldn't register anything happening. I moved to the elevator, unable to take the many detours leading me to Erico's room. I was too impatient right now.

The workers noted my presence and tried to greet me, but I ignored them as I entered the elevator. I pressed the button that would take me to Erico's hallway. As I waited, my fingers found their way to my watch, and I twisted it even more to control myself.

"I just want to see how she is handling my brother. That is all," I muttered to myself.

The door slid open, and I stepped out into the familiar hallway. I moved to the first door on the right. I slowly knocked on the door.

"Brother, it's me," I said slowly.

"Come in," came the slightly childish voice.

He must be in a good mood if he used this voice today. Rolling my wristwatch, I turned the knob off the door and moved into the room. Erico was seated on the floor, and he was sketching. I couldn't see what he was doing, but there was no sign of Evangelina.

"How are you brother?" I asked evenly.

He looked at me and smiled before returning to work like I was not there. "Why are you here?"

I shrugged. "Can't I come to see you?"

"You don't come to me for no reason," he said evenly.

I looked to the left at his sweaters, scattered on the arm of the chair. Couldn't Evangelina make sure he was at least neat?

"Erico, I wanted to know if Evangelina was treating you well, but she isn't here now, which is annoying," I mumbled.

He looked at me, his eyes soft. "I should be the one angry. But she isn't here, bro. I don't know where she is, and I don't want to talk too much today," he grumbled.

I nodded as I walked out of Erico's room, careful not to bang the door. Erico knew how to get under my skin, but I wouldn't let it affect me too much. Right now, it was essential to know where she was.

If I caught her, she would tell me why she would leave my brother for a second. I itched my hair as I walked down the hall, only to see a door that led to the outdoors open.

With slow steps, I walked out of there, and the path took me to the back of the house that led to the river. A couple of distance, I lifted my eyes to see a beauty standing by the door as she looked at the swans.

'Evangelina?'

She leaned down and scooped a sand before throwing it to the swans again. Was she the one? She looked like magic right now. Suddenly, she turned to face me, and I hardly knew what to say.

"Capone?" She asked in shock.
