EVANGELINA

"Can I come in?" I asked softly.

"Yes," came the curt reply.

I took a deep breath and slowly slid open the door to Erico's room. What I wanted was to move back to my room and never come in contact with him again, but I knew that this was utterly impossible. No way was happening, and I only had to deal with that.

With a sigh, I moved further into the room, and I saw Erico kneeling in the middle of the room with his back turned to me. What was his problem this time? The man never did anything without it being some drama.

Looking upward as I tried to pray for strength, I mumbled, "Is there something wrong?"

I looked down in time to see Erico looking right at me, his eyes wet with tears. "Hey!"

"Don't come close," he mumbled.

I stared at him as my hands curled into fists. "I won't come if you don't want to. But why are you crying?"

"Because of you," He spat.

"Me? What have I done?"

He looked away from me, only to bring out the phone that he kept on the bed with him. The video of me pulling off my top was so evident on it, and I shook in horror, taking several steps back.

"You saw me with this last night, but you ran off without telling me a word," he mumbled.

My eyes misted in tears, and I calmly cleaned it off with my palm. I couldn't cry now. Erico was not an average soul, and I was stuck with him. Could it be that he was the one who was watching me while I slept?

The look on his face right now gave nothing away, but still, I held back.

"Did it not hurt you when you saw that? I mean, I saw the tears in your eyes, and it broke me apart for a moment, and it was at that moment that I realized that I was wrong. I'm so sorry for hurting you so much," he gushed.

I dug my fingers tightly into my palm, not caring about the pain that I was inflicting on myself. The look of Erico's was priceless as he looked like he was about to cry.

"You won't forgive me so easily, right?" He whispered.

I shook my head quickly, releasing the pressure on my fingers. The pain lasted for a moment, and I embraced it absently. "It's fine. I mean, I was upset about it, but now that you're owning up to your mistake, I don't think it's necessary to be angry with you anymore."

Erico suddenly rose to his feet, and I stepped back in self-preservation.

"I'm going to delete the video from my phone," he promised.

I smiled at him lightly. "That's great."

Without waiting for his following words, I moved quickly around his room, picking up things and trying to place them in order. The whole room was a complete mess, and I couldn't take it.

Next, I grabbed a hold of the dirty plates. "I would go and keep this in the kitchen. Then, I will be back. I know you haven't had breakfast yet, so something fresh should do it."

"You would wash it."

I turned to him, and he had his hamster on his thigh as he gave me a silly grin. The man was too annoying for his good.

I looked at the plate and then at him, "I don't think that fits my job prescription. Don't worry, I will be back."

"Evangelina," he called as though my name was some music.

Holding the plates tightly, I looked right at him. "Eh, Erico?"

He smiled easily. "There is a reason I'm far from the main house. My brother loves to hide me, thinking that no one would know about me if he did that. So, you have to keep that up, ok? Whatever has to be done would be done by me."

He was right.

Amelio had warned me sternly about that. He also made it a point of not visiting his brother as much. Amelio was something crazy, and I didn't need to deal with such a soul at all. Maybe Erico was even better than him. At least he owned up to his mistakes.

I looked back at Erico with a kind smile on my face. "I will watch it in your bathroom then."

"I said, drop it. I will do it when it's convenient. No one goes in there," He snapped.

Consciously, I took a step back and placed it back on the table. "Ok," I said quietly.

Slowly, I walked to the adjacent door and rested my back on it. This would be my escape root if I wanted to leave this room. It was so suffocating to be in here, letting Erico get away with the crap he does.

'Be a living toy for him,' Amelio's cold words sounded in my head once more.

I didn't wish to be anyone's toy. Erico finally let the hamster go, and he rose to his feet. I watched him move to a paper bag, digging his hand into it as he laughed like a kid.

"I have something for you, Evangelina," he whined.

I smiled stiffly. "What is it?" I managed.

He rummaged through the bag as it made tinkling sounds before pulling out two small cards. Were those tickets?

"Surprise!" He squealed as he clapped his hands together.

I raised a brow at him. "What is that?"

"These are movie tickets. I want to take you on a movie date. Just the two of us. It would be so nice. And, yes, you don't have to worry. I have arranged everything. It's going to be perfect."

My face blanched with each word he spoke to me. Indeed, this could not be happening to me, but I guess it was, and I had to deal with it.

"Your brother....uh..."

Erico waved his fingers. "Stop worrying about him. What he doesn't know won't kill him. You're my playmate, right? So, don't refuse."

I gave a slight nod. "If that's the case, then..."

"Yes!" He screeched as he started jumping all over the place.

I closed my eyes inwardly, hoping he wouldn't come close to me. He could act like a child, but something about him was beyond scary.

Erico finally stopped his erratic movement and sank to the floor with the tickets outstretched in his hands.

"Come and take it," he encouraged.

No fucking way!

He kept swaying his hands as he nodded like I would jump right into his hands, making me more anxious. This was not right.

"Come on," He whined.

I quickly approached him, missing a step as I fell on the floor. Of course, I wasn't entirely down, and I was faking the whole thing. I just needed this man away from me.

"Oh, dear!"

I looked at him, and he was staggering to his feet. "Don't bother coming here, Erico. I need to get myself for a moment, and I would be fine. It's not a problem."

He frowned. "Are you sure?"

I smiled like I was in pain. "Yes, I'm positive."

The crazy soul grinned as he flopped down on the bed, smiling at the tickets in his hands.
