EVANGELINA

"Please, don't kill me," Mother screamed as she slowly edged backward using her palm.

A man in a hooded cap ignored her, inching closer to her. It wasn't easy to see where she was, and all I knew was a little child at the far left of the hall. It took me a moment to piece that the little child was me, and she was crouched at the back of the wall in tears.

"I beg of you. You can take whatever you want, but please spare my life," she cried.

The man laughed as he pulled a silver knife behind his back. "Too bad I don't show mercy."

And, just like that, he lunged forward, grabbing her leg. I could see her clinging to the leg of the table as she kicked at him. The man grabbed hold of her like it was a piece of glass, and before I could blink, he pierced the knife deep into her skin.

Mother's scream resonated, and I clamped my ears shut in fright. But I still looked on from my spot, wondering how to help. Despite the pain mother must be feeling, she shot her hands forward, moving unthinkingly to stop the man from hurting her even more, but he relentlessly stabbed her more. On the fourth one, it went through her hand to the leg.

"No!"

The air was cold against my damp skin as I opened my eyes, sitting up in the bed. I could feel my heartbeat moving so fast, and I quietly placed a hand on my chest to stifle the pain that I was feeling.

Why did I have this dream after so long?

I closed my eyes as I felt my lips go dry. Water... where was it? I needed it. I mindlessly moved my hands backward, searching for the glass of water, only to knock it down. Oh, fuck! Cringing, I shot out of bed like a blind bat. It was the exact moment I stepped on a glass shard.

"Ouch!" I cried, raising my legs slightly but bringing them down at the last minute.

It was no use. I had to find where to get a first aid. The cold night was not enough to see my way through, but I noticed a soft glow in the other room through the adjacent door. Erico wouldn't be asleep by this time.

Itching my hair lightly, I slowly tiptoed to his room. Even if he was, I'm sure he wouldn't do anything rash to me. "Stop overthinking.  I'm sure that he has learned his lesson. It's going to be alright," I mumbled to myself.

My fingers slowly twisted the doorknob as I peered into the room. Erico was with a file as he sat right on the floor with his lamp glowing by his side. He had on a singlet and a pajama bottom. I need to get the first-aid box and get out of here.

Biting my lips, I made my way into the room. He rose his head to mine, his expression stiff. The glass hid his eyes from my scrutiny, leaving me to wonder what he was thinking.

I looked around the room, but it was filled with so much junk that I couldn't see even the handle of the first-aid box. "Eh.... I'm sorry for coming to your room like this. But I hurt my foot," I mumbled, lifting the offended foot for him to see.

Erico shrugged as he placed the file on the table, his eyes still trained on me. He said nothing, and the silence resulted in more pain for me. I jumped on one foot, slowly moving forward.

"Please, if you have the first-aid box, then let me have it. I won't stress you again for the night. It's just a little favor that I want you to do for me," I whined.

"I don't do favors," he said coldly.

My heart broke into a million parts at those words. I jumped again, not to move forward but to show my hurt. Erico pulled his head to the side, watching my mannerisms, but there was no visible change in his countenance.

I looked up and back at him. "Look, I know that you like your space, but you said we were cool with each other. Surely, that should count for something. Help me with the treatment, please. I'm really in pain here."

He smirked. "So? Even my hamster sometimes has a bloody foot. There is no big deal about it, but it's the way everything should occasionally be. A little blood is good for the soul. "

I stared at him in shock. "I'm not an animal, Erico. I'm not saying the hamster deserved to be hurt, but I need to stop the blood."

He hit the file down repeatedly before sliding to his feet. "Ok, strip and kiss me then."

"What?"

His eyes narrowed at me. "If you can't do it, I would like to sleep," he whined in a childlike voice.

I felt my blood drain out of my face as I watched him move towards his bed. His footsteps were weirdly disturbing, and I tried not to gag. I thought he had changed and earnestly wished to apologize, but that was untrue. All he wanted was to trap me.

Looking down at my foot, I noted the blood drip even more. It was not right. 'Fuck!' I screamed in my head.

My hands shot forward as I said, "Wait!"

Erico angled his face at me, smiling happily. "You want to strip now? Yay!"

"No!"

His smile dissolved, leaving an angry look. I shook my head quickly, trying to get him to calm down. "I can't stand on this foot for long. I've been injured, and I feel so weak. But I'm going to peck you and make you feel so good," I whined.

He looked at me, and I could only pray that his heart was pure. Quietly, he turned away from me, moving towards a black box. He opened the box, retrieving a first-aid kit, which he held surprisingly.

"Here," He said, raising a bit.

I stared at my leg and back at me. OK, there would be no more mercies for me. I limped over to him, grabbing the box from him before leaning over. My nose caught the disturbing scent emitting from his body. I had not noticed it before. It took me so much not to gag.

Damn my luck!

Gritting my teeth, I pressed my lips against the side of his cheek and pulled back quickly. Erico had a glassy expression, but I didn't wait to learn the nonsense he might spew.

I limped back to my room, closing the door firmly behind me. The foul smell came to me once more, and I realized it was blood. But how was that possible?

Why couldn't Erico be an ordinary soul?

I hope he won't keep doing all this. But I knew it would be impossible to achieve all that. He was a horror waiting to happen.
