BRUNO

"Take that dog out of here, or I might kill it," I snapped at the security officer standing at the mansion.

I was not too fond of animals, but Amelio couldn't do without them, which always left me in the wrong place. I didn't wish to be the sort of worker at loggerheads with their bosses. But whenever I caught glimpses of those things, I lost my cool.

With a sigh, I watched the officer take the dog away, and it howled at me. I glared back at it. Stupid things! Taking a deep breath, I walked into the quiet mansion, and as expected, I could not see any sign of Amelio. He must be handling some insane tasks by now, and only god knew how many souls he might take.

"Sir Bruno!"

Ugh!

That damn voice again. I shifted my gaze to the kitchen and noted that Mrs. Feliz was running towards me with her hands full of cookies.

"Are you not supposed to put those in a tray?" I asked calmly.

She chuckled. "You would enjoy it better when you eat from my hand, sir," she said with a dubious wink.

Her long gown was outdated, and her hair was like a mop of brown, yet she still thought I would sleep with her if she put in the proper pressure. Nonsense!

"I would have to pass, eh," I said dryly.

She frowned lightly. "No, I spent a lot of time in the kitchen trying to fix these. You must eat it at least, sir," she whined.

"Your husband would be more pleased to do so," I pointed out.

She scoffed. "The old dawg doesn't run after me like he used to, and it's not the same. I need a man as youthful as you to keep me company." She said softly.

"Repeat that," I said as I flicked my fingers.

She looked at me, curious. "I said I need a man..."

"No, not that! The other thing you said," I said firmly.

"I said, my husband is not dying to see me like he used to be. He was always so passionate earlier, but his duties have changed him completely," she explained again.

I slid my hand through my hair in shock as I turned towards the hall. I could hear Mrs Feliz screaming that I shouldn't walk out on her, but I didn't care. There was something there. I knew it.

Turning around like a maniac, I took the door to the garden, knowing she would be there, and she was. Evangelina turned her back to me as she looked around the garden, whistling as she cradled the flowers.

"I can't be wrong. My boss is crazy about this woman," I whispered to myself.

She stooped low at some point and slid her fingers around the petals as though she wanted to shield them from the harsh sunlight. She was a strange woman, but the boss loved her still and wanted her to leave everything to be with him. Of course, he had not confessed that much to me. But, how he was always rude without pause and coveted her for his brother was strange. No other woman had that power.

"Eh..."

She jumped out of her skin thanks to that one sound. I watched as she carefully looked at me, her hands poised. "Mr Bruno, what do you want?"

I shrugged. "You have to come with me right now."

"What?"

I raised my brow at her. "It was not up for discussion."

She rose to her feet, hitting her leg on the grass as she glared at me. "I can't just go with you without knowing where to. I only answer to the Don and Erico. So, please spare me for a few minutes."

This woman!

Unable to stop myself, I moved quickly to her, getting a hold of her hand as I dragged her through the garden to the mansion. She struggled to free herself, but I tightened my hold on her even more. The walk to my room was slower than before, and I hated that so much, but it seemed fitting that it would all happen like this.

In a couple of minutes, I had her in and closed the door tightly.

"What the hell are you doing, Mr Bruno?" She asked stiffly.

I shoved her onto a black seat in frustration. "Be quiet."

"Why should I be quiet? You didn't tell me why you brought me here and all. If you think I'm a slut, please, that is not true. I'm being told to take care of Mr Erico only, and you're not a part of those persons, ok?"

I nodded. "I don't want you to take care of me, Evangelina. I want you to be quiet for some time. I'm the one who knows why I brought you to my room, so relax."

I watched as she wrung her hands together. And I knew she didn't believe a word I was saying, but it wasn't like she had any choice. She stared at the door with a longing that made me look away. She must have her life and think the worst of herself.

With a sigh, I moved over to the mini-bar in my room, pouring a glass of whiskey for myself. Then, I took the glass to the window and waited. The room was silent, but my heart pounded excitedly against my chest.

Before long, I saw the black Mercedes sports car roll into the compound. The boss stepped out, looking dapper in black, with blood on the side of his wrist. Aemelio had killed once more as I had imagined.

He didn't waste time running into the mansion. I stepped out of the window and took a sip of whiskey. My gaze flickered to Evangelina, and I noted she was looking at me with worry. She didn't understand anything that was going on.

Well, it will become apparent as soon as possible.

Before I could complete my thought, the door to my room sprung open. "Did you see Evangelina, Bruno? Do you know where she could be? I need to see her right now. Damn it! Say something, and stop looking at me. I have been looking for her like a maniac, and I can't find her..."

I quickly moved my fingers in her direction. "She was here all the while."

Aemelio turned his gaze to the girl, and he glared at her with everything that he had in him. He moved to her, only to come over to me, holding me by the collar. "What is she doing alone in your room? This harlot is not someone that you should hold!"

"Calm down," I mumbled.

He glared. "Shut up!"
