Arun's POV:
As Angel and I entered our home, a Tamil song floated in the air, echoing in the walls of our living room. Music - It always had a power to refresh me, holding my soul back in my body whenever circumstances suffocated me. But despite my happiness that welled up in me on that day, music failed to do its usual magic as my eyes landed on Vijay and Srisha near the external speakers of our TV, both of their palms on the speaker, Srisha's face coated with sorrow.
They were adorable, but her reddish eyes, and tear stained cheeks shook me. "Hey, what happened? Did she cry?" I asked, approaching them, my voice echoing above the speaker.
Vijay clicked off the speaker, and both of them turned to me.
"What happened?" I repeated to Srisha.
She shook her head, lowering her eyes, her voice barely audible, "Nothing, anna. A small problem in our college."
Her words contradicted the sadness in her face. It was not definitely a small problem I understood and I was about to probe further.
But before I could utter my words, Angel asked compassionately, taking Srisha's hands in her hands, "What problem?"
Vijay forced a smile. "As we are in the final year of PG, our professor conducted a group discussion to train us for future interviews. But Sree can't hear everyone at a time to respond to them in the group discussion na? So our professor excluded her for the discussion. I too couldn't do anything as a student. It will hurt na? When you have a lot of knowledge about the topic of discussion more than anyone else there in the room, but your tongues are tied just because your ears are injured. She cried for it. I just made her listen to the music to distract her."
I inhaled deep, my heart tightening. Fate always targets kind hearted people. Is the world really beautiful like Diya taught me? Or was her words a joke? Till the moment Diya was alive I believed her words, the world is beautiful, but I was a blind to see it. But after her untimely demise, her words 'the world is beautiful' felt like a joke to me. How ironic it is to say, the world is beautiful when some people build palace like houses just for luxury while some people are in footpaths without even a hut, when some people are using their physical ability for violence while some people struggled with physical disability, when some people get opportunities without even any skills just because of recommendations while some people are ignored of opportunities even if they had maximum skills, when some cruel people live long, fulfilling their cruel wishes of torturing others while some good hearted people die soon without even fulfilling their genuine wishes? The world is definitely not beautiful. We can only make ourselves beautiful to face the challenges.
The world may not be beautiful, but whoever faces the challenges of the world positively are definitely beautiful.
Angel forced a smile. "I feel you. I was also rejected in many circumstances because I was visually challenged. But don't worry. Right opportunities for our skills will reach us at the right time. Just have confidence in your skill, develop your knowledge and skills more, and wait for the right time. This classroom level group discussion is nothing. You will get opportunities to speak in big conferences at the right time, if you work for it."
"But what if the right time doesn't exist in our case?" Sree let out a sarcastic smile.
Vijay shook his head in disagreement, pressing his forehead.
Angel's voice softened as she touched Sree's shoulder warmly. "Right time exists. We only let our seeds of skills die because of these kinds of thoughts before we reach the right time. I know people like us should work a little more. But can't we work a little more? The world cannot see or hear like us. We are not born as disabled. We are born with a strength to look at the world uniquely that the rest of the world can't. When we have the power of seeing and hearing the world beyond nature, can't we work a little more?"
