Arun's POV:
As Angel and I sat down between Amma and Appa, Amma tapped Angel's shoulder gently, but with a frown. "Don't you know about Krishna? How can you misunderstand him? Actually, he was the one who taught me not to judge or to generalize people, and we are the reason for the understanding nature more than judgemental nature of our children, and our children instilled those thoughts to their babies. It's true biological genes would have some impact on children's behavior. But how we treat our children, what circumstances we create for our children, and what we teach to our children would have more impact than their genes. Apart from genes, the root of Pari's words is Krishna. How can he think like you replaced Diya? He can never."
Appa intervened, laughing. "No. I am not the root for this. Maybe, the root is my mom, dad and the books I read."
Amma pouted like a child. "For me, it's you."
He laughed. "No one can change you in this aspect of glorifying me."
Amma twisted her lips playfully.
But a hard realization hit me at that moment. The realization was, if Krishna appa and Payal Amma were not there, I would have not been there as a good human. They were the root of my transformation from bad habits. Diya might be one of the branches of the root who gave me a shelter of humanity and compassion, which turned into love. But the root was her parents and what they taught her. When almost every girl, including the colleagues and students of my guitar classes looked at me disgustingly because they somehow knew my habits through gossiping after seeing me on roads in intoxication, Diya chose to be friendly with me without judging me. She chose to give a chance for me to change before concluding with any judgements on her own. The reason was, she was brought up with such non-judgemental thoughts and with the courage and compassion to speak with anyone irrespective of their genders and habits.
Only two kinds of people can approach a person like me with compassion. One, they should have a baby's innocence like Diya, who didn't face any cruelty of the world, and who was brought up with such strong thoughts. Or, they should be mature like Angeline who faced almost every cruelty of the world, but changed those struggles into lessons and strengths, instead of generalizing and ignoring people. Otherwise, it is almost impossible for a woman to speak friendly with a person like me. That too, a woman like Diya, who hailed from an affluent family, who lived a fantasy life in reality would never ever turn their eyes to the people like me without such a strong upbringing.
If Diya was brought up by any others, the chance was very less for her even to speak with me after knowing everything about me. I would have not got this life. The root of my transformed life was Krishna appa and Payal Amma, and I smiled at Appa warmly thinking, "I thought Diya gifted you, Amma, this family and this life to me. But now I realize you both gifted Diya, this family, and this life to me. Diya might be an unexpected angel of my life. But you both are unexpected Gods of my life, without whom an unexpected Angel might have not been there. I don't believe in an invisible God. But you both make me feel like God is present in some humans like you both. I will always take care of you both. Not like my parents, but like my babies."
Angel's voice, tinted with guilt, interrupted my thoughts. "Sorry, pa. But your expressions are unreadable nowadays. That's why, I thought like that."
Amma laughed. "He does this whenever he wants to play. He knows acting and mimicry, and he plays, using those skills. If he was not a doctor, he would have been a great actor."
Angel's eyes glittered. "Then, let appa act in Arun mama's music video."
Appa shook his head playfully with a mix of agreement and disagreement. "Yes. I can act. But what if I get many girl fans and what if they come to propose to me? They will be heartbroken to know I am 50 years old, married, having children and grandchildren, too. I don't want to break their hearts." Appa chuckled with a wink.
