Chapter 9 : Through the Veil of Time
" Teo? What's wrong?" The softness in Duke's voice made me feel sick to my stomach.
But then again, wasn't this what I have always wanted? What did I even want? I clenched the muscles in my jaw, making my top and bottom teeth grit against one another.
I didn't want to look at him, I couldn't, if I would, I would probably forgive him.
[ Just how much more stupid can I get? ]
I sighed. My body felt exhausted already.
"..."
I didn't answer, not even a sound escaped my sailed lips. Was I trying to look tough to make him realise he had wounded me? Wanting to be seen.
The wound that was deep inside my soul, as if it was reopening, well I'm not sure if it even had time to be healed to reopen, but it was bleeding.No. I was trying not to break down, all those memories of my life coiled over the so-called reality I was in.
" Hey.. Theodore." Duke's palm reached out to be placed on my shoulders again to draw attention from me, but I instantly moved away, even with this small body. I moved just so slightly but anyone in the room could see the awkward discomfort in my body language and expression.
" Don't touch me." I said as my eyes unconsciously glanced at the red loudspeaker which seemed to sympathise with me.
Sympathise with what?Alex quickly made his way between the duke and me, blocking his view of me with his body, glaring at the duke with his cherry blossom eyes.
His father seemed to lose at least five years of his lifespan because of how shocked he was. His smooth bright red hair was already turning white from all the stress, and his pale complexion hardened like a stone ready to shatter.
" How dare-" the Duke's brows furrowed. Yes, this is more like him, more like the Duke I remember. But before his anger could flare he was interrupted by the doctor.
" Sir, if I may." He started but didn't bother to wait for a response as he just continued in his speech.
" He doesn't seem to recognize you." A pure white lie.
My saviour.
"I'm sure the child is startled." The doctor sighed and closed his eyes, those bags under them were just like his main accessories. Duke's face immediately darkened as he stood straight and looked at me.
" Theodor, who am I?" He asked as he clenched his fist, his knuckles turning white. Disbelief and denial in his voice.
[ Is he going through a middle life crisis? ]
I averted my head. Yes, running from the issue is better than facing it head-on.
Even with my head away I could feel the intense stare he had.
" Who am I." He repeated as he reached his hands but stopped, the red loudspeaker blocking his target anyway.
I sighed. I was deciding which scenario to take.
1. Pretend I don't remember him nor the treatment he gave me.
2. Acknowledge his identity and deny amnesia.
I sighed.
[As I thought, I shall go with the third opinion.]
