Chapter 11 : Where Light Meets Shadow.
Well, anything would be better than being back in this suffocating place. Absolutely nothing changed.
The room was a portrait of opulence, bathed in the soft glow of crystal chandeliers hanging from the high ceiling. The air filled with the smell of old books and musk-damp stone, occasionally interrupted by a faint smell of flowers.
A grand fireplace, its mantle crafted from gleaming mahogany, was flanked by tall gilded mirrors that reflected the warmth of the flames. Antique bookshelves lined onto royal blue and silver pattern painted walls. The floor was a smooth expanse of polished wood, softened by luxurious rugs, and animal fur.
On the one side, there was a lavishly big bed. The bed itself was dressed in layers of fine, dark-coloured silk quilts, linens and a mountain of embroidered pillows. Either side of the bed was decorated with a matching glided nightstand. Topped with lamps and vases with seemingly fresh white lilies.
A series of tall, arched windows lined one wall, their panes half veiled by flowing royal blue curtains, tied back with silver tassels. Offering the view of the palace gardens and setting sun.
Even the sun was running away, just like everyone, leaving me all alone in this hell.
On the other side was a more calming area. The sofa's cushion was an inviting mix of textures no, some embroidered with floral designs, other in smooth silk that caught the firelight. A plush rug beneath the seating area mirrored the designs of the larger carpets but in a softer, subtler way.
The black wood table had a silver tray on top, which held a delicate tea set porcelain painted with royal blue and silver designs. A stack of books and a small box of intricately carved ivory sat nearby, hinting at moments of studying.
I took a light breath in and out again.
Well now that I was paying more attention. Something did change.
In my previous life, or whatever, rooms were bathed in more gold details than they were in silver. But now, looking at this room there are almost no gold decorations.
[Did we go broke?]

" Young master? " A voice drifted to me from somewhere close, too close if I could say.
[Right, I'm not here alone.]
" No, it's nothing." I said as I lowered my eyes and stepped inside. The person looked up and then back at me. Arching a brow before following me inside.
I walked inside the room. What am I even supposed to do? I didn't want to come back.
" Would you like anyth-" Before the servant could even finish the poor excuse of a conversation starter, the door swung open.
[ Déjà vu?]
