Vicky was still marked, she was cursed to never be free from the Flare virus.
Her curse continued to plague her life, yet she refused to accept it as her fate.
The city was a wasteland, the air pollution was very severe as the skies were filled with heavy clouds of smoke and smog.
The buildings were all either dirty or in ruins, and the streets were filled with trash and debris. It was a desolate and depressing sight, and it was a stark contrast to the beautiful and peaceful nature that could be found outside the city limits.
The city itself was a grim and depressing reminder of the destruction that humanity has caused, and it painted a bleak picture of how life would be like under WCKD's rule.
As Vicky moved through the city, she could see the air pollution and the dull atmosphere that was all around. The city was grey, dull, and grim, as if the life had been drained out of it.
She could see the effects of the air pollution, the streets were dirty, the buildings were dilapidated, and people seemed lifeless.
The city had been affected deeply by the Flare virus, and the effects were clear to all who lived there. "Are you sure this isn't the Crank Palace or something?" She asked sarcastically to the boy next to her, Matt.
Her gaze wandered to his face, admiring the deep brown of his eyes – like pools of molten chocolate, framed by a thick set of lashes that made them all the more striking. His mess of brown hair fell over his forehead, framing his angular features.
He was always well-groomed and took care of himself. He was handsome and he knew it.
He chuckled at Vicky's sarcasm, but there was a grim truth to it.
"We may aswell be living in the Crank Palace, that's just how things have turned out." Matt replied in a serious tone, it was a sad truth about their current situation.
The city was quite clearly a dismal place, and those that lived here were subject to the harsh realities of a dystopian world.
"We won't have to live like this forever, though." Matt said, trying to offer some hope to Vicky.
"You don't have to lie to me, Matt." Vicky spoke softly. She had an orange bandanna coloured that's dull with a little flower printed on it wrapped around her face, covering only her lower mouth.
"I'm not lying." Matt replied, he was quite serious when he said that.
He had seen the way Vicky looked at the city, he could see how it affected her.
He agreed with Vicky, nobody should live like this. People deserved better.
"WCKD's going to fall, soon enough. Once they do, things will be better." Matt's replies sounded full of hope, but Vicky could see just how damaged the city had left him.
