Verena seized the opportunity. She swooped low, dropping a massive bomb that hovered in the air before plummeting toward the base.
The massive bomb hit its target with a deafening explosion, sending a shockwave rippling through the base. The impact was felt for miles, and the force of the blast sent debris flying in all directions.
The explosion rocked the base, and in its aftermath:
Teresa, thrown off balance by the impact, slammed against the nearby wall, the force of the collision knocking the air out of her lungs.
Thèrèse, watching the aftermath of the explosion, her heart leapt into her throat when she saw Teresa slam against the wall.
"No! No, no, no!" she cried out, her voice filled with desperation. Fear and worry gripped her as she ran towards Teresa, frantically trying to get to her.
"Please, be okay," Thèrèse whispered, her voice shaking. "Please be okay."
As Thèrèse reached Teresa's side, she knelt down, her hands moving quickly to assess the extent of the damage.
Her fingers trembled as they brushed against Teresa's skin, checking for injuries.
"Can you hear me?" Thèrèse's voice quivered as she spoke. "Please, baby, say something."
Teresa's eyes fluttered open, the world around her blurry. She struggled to focus, her vision swimming as the ringing in her ears slowly faded.
"Thèrèse?" she croaked out, her voice weak and hoarse. "Is ...is that you?"
Tears welled up in Thèrèse's eyes as she heard Teresa's voice. It was the most beautiful sound she had ever heard.
"Yes, it's me," Thèrèse replied, her voice cracking. "I'm right here, love."
She carefully helped Teresa sit up, her hands gentle and shaky, afraid of hurting her further.
Teresa obediently stayed still, letting Thèrèse's gentle hands explore her body for injuries.
The pain was starting to register now, a dull ache spreading through her back and shoulders.
Thèrèse whimpered in frustration, cradling Teresa's head and supporting her body. "Let's get out of here. I can get you out of here."
"Y-yeah," Teresa agreed, her voice still weak. She wrapped her arms around Thèrèse's neck, relying on her support to stay upright.
"You're okay. You're strong." Thèrèse bowed her head down, meeting Teresa's lips gently.
Teresa leaned into the kiss, finding comfort in the familiar touch of Thèrèse's lips.
"I'll be fine," she whispered, managing a small smile. "As long as you're with me."
Thèrèse nodded. She wrapped one arm around Teresa's waist, helping her steady herself. With her free hand, she gripped Teresa's, intertwining their fingers tightly.
"We need to move, find some cover. I.. I don't have my hoverboard with me." She looked around.
Teresa nodded, leaning on Thèrèse for support as they moved together.
"Lead the way," she said, her grip on Thèrèse's hand firm but shaky. "I trust you."
As the smoke and dust from the explosion settled, the rest of the Right Arm crew frantically searched for any sign of Thèrèse and Teresa.
"Thèrèse! Teresa!" Frypan called out, his voice echoing through the wreckage. "Where are you guys?!"
"Over here!" Thèrèse called back, her voice carrying over the cacophony of the crumbling base. She led Teresa towards the nearest bit of cover she could find, keeping a tight hold on her.
