The two of them danced for three songs before his arms tensed around her. When she lifted her head, she noticed that his eyes were turned somewhere else. Cat turned her head to follow his gaze, at first unable to find anyone in particular that would steal his normally all consuming attention. Then the crowd was split like the red sea for her to find a drop dead gorgeous woman standing in the doorway of the ballroom.

With his attention stolen, Cat was able to pull away from him, or try to. He was snapped from his distracted thoughts, stopping her from moving more than a step back, sweeping them off the floor before the song had even finished. The Relevent led her with a hand still on the small of her back, not attempting to re-grab her hand.

Once they were away from the other dancers, they made their way over to the refreshment tables. As they finally made it next to where the bar met the food, he stopped long enough to say, "Stay here." Leaning forward to plant a rough kiss on her forehead, using it as an excuse to add in a low growl, "I fucking mean it, Caterina. Stay here." Without waiting for her to argue or ask any questions, he disappeared into the throng of people.

Cat's eyes shot straight to the doorway, watching the woman who matched Kal with her entirely black get up. Just like she had meant to, before choosing this new dress. It didn't take long for her to see him appear by the mystery woman's side, where they exchanged words in the doorway for a moment. Then disappear from the hall altogether, his hand on her back the entire time.

Her insides boiled hot with jealousy, her hands clenching at her sides so hard she felt the nails pressing into the skin of her own palm.

"Cat?" Sophia was on the other side of the table, her plate stacked with food, which she was keeping tucked close to her like someone might evaporate out of thin air and take it away from her. "Are you okay?"

Reluctantly drawing her eyes away from the point where her stalker had disappeared with another woman, she looked at the teenager, who was currently popping a small cake into her mouth. "Do you know who that was?"

The girl looked in the direction she was pointing, not sure who it was that was being singled out. "Who?" She asked around her mouthful, already gripping her next victim; some kind of purple cookie.

"Dirty blonde, body of a supermodel, eyes for Kal," she hissed in a dark tone.

The girl's answer was immediate, with a hint of her own disgust, "Felicity. Home-wrecking whore, that's what that thing is."

Cat clenched her jaw, biting her tongue to keep from snapping at the innocent child, who popped in the next desert. "Who do you think she's doing here?" She asked in her bed fake kindness she could muster. It was obvious what she had wanted, after all she'd just been described in a specific manner.

"She probably saw Kal and thought it would be okay to try re-sparking their old fling," she muttered while grabbing something else off the table and shoving it in quickly, despite her already full platter. As soon as she said it, her eyes shot up, wide with realization, "Not that I think he would reciprocate at all."

But it was too late, an ice cold sensation flushed through her veins, cooling her core temperature to arctic.

Sophia?"

Elenor's voice carried over to them from several feet away, causing a panicked look to come across the girl's face. Setting her plate down on the corner of the table, she hastily finished what was in her mouth before turning around. Effectively hiding her food from Elenor's sight with the skirts of her dress. When the party's hostess emerged from the gathered bodies, her eyes jumped to Cat. Looking at her as if she were just as dangerous as the man she accompanied. "Brandon is looking for you," she informed her daughter, turning her eyes to her cooly, "Come, I've promised him a dance."
